(This is stolen from ModernManatee and TwilightEmber on the Discord. The suggestion was originally motivated by MM's complaints about the 30% chance of not getting resources when you harvest a node, which reduces to 10% by the time you've finished the level block.)
As part of a Profession revamp, Profession tools could be made somewhat more complex. In this revamped version, there are several variant tools which each have different properties and specialisations - one might be good at quickly harvesting nodes but poor at actually getting resources from them (thus being specialised for XP gain) while another is slow, but efficient and may get bonus resources, justifying the time cost (thus being specialised for material gain).
A proper list of the possible variant tools (mostly taken from their suggestions):
    • A tool which harvests materials of its kind regardless of level restriction (Steel Axe/Steel Pick/Steel Scythe/Steel Rod), but which provides reduced experience and mat gain chance. Probably would need to have seriously nerfed experience gain for levels higher than your current prof level, although not extremely nerfed experience gain - such a Steel tool would be useful for catching up your gathering level to your current combat level. (TwilightEmber suggested that this tool is also faster than the low-level tool - that is, the tool that is 5 levels below the node level, rather than 5 levels above, in current tool structure.)
    • A tool which has a guaranteed chance of successfully getting a material from a node (possibly even a chance of double material), but which is slower.
    • A multitool which can harvest from several different types of materials (I suggested Spear-Scythe and Pick-Axe for this), but which has some other flaw - probably reduced efficiency (IE it has a lower chance of yielding a material).
    • A tool with extremely high durability and a 100% chance of getting a material, but which is slow.
These tools could be sourced as normal - from dungeon shops and the Tool Merchant for low-level ones - or they could have a variety of sources, such as ordinary merchants, quests, and dungeons also. I'd suggest having the basic tools, the currently implemented ones, remain in dungeon shops while alt tools can be found in other sources. The Steel Tools could maybe be yielded from a level 60-80 quest.
There could probably be more tools suggested, these were the ones they came up with.
