If you like things like survival, creative, slimefun, towny, pixelmon, skygrid, etc., I used to play on a server called Treasure Island (tinetwork.net). The community was really nice and it was the first time I felt like a community was my family. The server uses plugins too. I was an avid skyblock player and I quit after a year and a half due to the lack of time, as well as many of my friends going inactive. There are about 120-150 players active daily nowadays. Back when I played, 100 was a pretty large milestone.

I also played on Lemoncloud (play.lemoncloud.org) for short periods of time, but ultimately got bored within a week or two. The environment wasn't as welcoming and I disliked some of the plugins and how limited they were. I enjoyed playing here, but not as much as I enjoyed being a part of Treasure Island for a year and a half.
