an olm is a type of salamander which, whaddya know, lives in complete and total darkness. they might have twisted that into a dernic thing.

 

I assume the Olm are the species that build time valley, and that the corpse found in that discovery is the remains of a dead Olm (Not sure about the terminology). That corpse has grey skin, which may point towards other existing grey skinned characters being Olm as well, like Bob. It is stated in the first chapter of Bobs lore in the Ragni Library that"...During the fight, a woman who never said her name, nor where she had come from (she certainly wasn’t one of Ragni’s own) gave birth to a baby boy on the cold floors of the sewer...". So Bobs mom certainly isn't from Ragni, and her son has grey skin, which most likely means she (or Bobs father) did as well. That little piece of lore found in the ruins of The Valley Of Time may be the missing link that ties together Bobs origin story, while also introducing us to a new species of intelligent life. Little lore details like this is why i love the new update.

Though I'm probably rambling and there is no connection, didn't Garoth turn into a salamander? Is that connected?

 

I'm not caught up on the Garoth lore, so I can't confirm.

But in any case, I doubt that's a connection, as the salamander thing itself was a sidestep into IRL stuff

The olm is probably a spiecies just like humans an villagers

 

I was guessing it's the name of an individual who was part of that species

I always chocked up the Ancients to being Dernic, but...

From the Kingdom of Sand quest, and the evidence in Time Valley, we KNOW there was another race in Wynn before the humans. Now, this is the race that Olms is part if, IMO.

Now, it would make a lot of sense for the Ancients to be members of that race, but currently there's not enough evidence for a strong connection, or than the names

Well, the Olm can still be one person. It depends if that person is the only one remaining of the Olm race or if he just calls himself that.
