My Interview And Nomination Of Redx475

I'm been fairly anxious to get my LMR up to 1:1 so I can make a FW nomination for a while now. However, when I finally reached my goal I started looking through the most influential staff and normal members (Xavier, Yuno, Ganon, etc) and found that a thread already existed for most. I then stumbled upon @redx475, the behind-the-scenes server admin for Wynncraft. I messaged him and set up a quick interview about his work in the conversation. Without further ado, here it is...



What did you do before Wynncraft? How did you find out about it?

I've been modding games for years - I started out with Source engine mods (Half-Life 2,
Counter-Strike: Source, Garry's Mod) and then somehow met HiMyNameIsAJ who ended up
getting me into Minecraft modding. I did some contracted work in the early days of Wynncraft
and helped Jumla with some backend stuff as a one-time deal. Eventually, I started working for
a fairly popular server called The Chunk where I developed about half of the games along with
some of the server infrastructure. That server eventually merged into CubeCraft, which is when
I left. Jumla found out we were open sourcing some of our tools and hired me on to rework
some of the backend stuff for Wynncraft and here I am.

How/When did you join the Wynncraft team?

I guess I already answered how - originally I did a bit of work for Jumla a few years ago and
then ended up coming onto the team after leaving CCGN. I joined up at the beginning of this
year.​

What do you do for the server?

Originally I wrote the software that manages all of the servers. I now just maintain that system
along with some other systems administration duties - making sure stuff on the backend is
running and helping out with other stuff from time to time.

Do you do this alone, or do you communicate/work with other members of the Admins?

My work is pretty siloed off from everyone else - I'm the only systems administrator on the
team and it's mostly Jumla or Salted poking me whenever something goes down. My
interactions are mostly limited to Jumla since he's the one making all of the technical decisions,
but he mostly just tells me what he wants and I figure out the rest.​

Do you ever play on the server yourself?

I did for a bit earlier on this year, and I'm on from time to time but I'm usually too busy to play.​

What are the origins of your username and profile picture?

My username goes back 9 years or so to when I played runescape. No idea why I chose that
name, I just sorta did. The profile picture was actually made by the owner of The Chunk (well,
now the head admin of CCGN) and it's based on my in-game skin.​

What other projects do you have outside Wynncraft?

I work on all kinds of projects, though I don't do anything in Minecraft outside of Wynncraft.
I'm currently working on a procedurally generated multiplayer dungeon crawler (that's a
mouthful!) along with a few other side projects.

It may be nothing special, but I just wanted to give info and share out one of the big members of the Wynncraft creation community; a first debut in the spotlight and not back handling the ropes. redx475, we thank you for all the work that you have put into maintaining and managing our server!

But you just did exactly what is supposed to happen in every FW episode: An interview.
So basically you defeated the purpose of FW..

Should Admins be elligable for Admin?
I mean last time a admin (grian) got FW that was the end of it, and Grian was a greedy, bad boy, who was on Santa's naughty list, kept the rank for all eternity.

I miss The Chunk. Used to play it a lot.

 

I checked and that was a necro save by less than an hour
not even kidding
checked the time things and it was under 1 hour from that post till it was 30 days exactly
so essentially before that post it was 29 days 23 hoursish till since the last post
