Female, from the looks of it.
Of course, checking tips your hand, but you weren't very subtle about it in the first place.

 

Maybe I should hug it. .-.

The most oblivious smile you've smiled yet spreads across your face as you hug a very confused lady.
Yeah, it was messy hair. And bags under her eyes, now that you're up close.

"Are... you... okay?"

 

Oh, we can speak?!?!

Don't comment, stop hugging and move my hand to her shoulders. Lean back and get a good look at her.

 

So yeah, the black hair. It's to the point where money could be safely bet that this thing hasn't been touched in years. It's a tangled mess down to about the small of her back.
No weird eyes as far as you can see. There are bags under them, however, giving them a sunken-in look.
The outfit is mostly white, and rather simple. A tunic and pants, with a brown jacket and belt over them. It's not specially maintained or anything, it just looks like she threw them on this morning.
It's only been a moment or two, but she's looking you over as well.

"Maybe? No... too short, wrong eyes..."

 

*shake head confusedly*
"Sorry, I've been out here for a while. It's really good to see another human." (She is human, right?)

 

Yes.
"How.. how did you get here?"

Her voice rapidly solidifies, seemingly snapping out of her funk.

"I - I mean, we're hundreds of miles away from literally anywhere! It's a needle in a burning, murderous haystack!"

 

"Actually, I just woke up a little while ago. No clue how I got here, or why. At least there's food, water, and shade."

 

"... Not lying? Huh. I hang around here a lot, so maybe whoever stuck you here wanted you to meet me? Why? Nobody should even know that this place exists! I stuck it in the middle of... Gods, I don't really want to deal with this right now."

 

"Where is this again?"

 

"Umm, living desert? A couple days southwest of the center. Come here whenever I need to cool down."

 

How hot is this place? .-.

 

Cooler than the desert proper, but still pretty warm. (~25C/78F)

 

"Living desert sounds about right, I had to fight a rock monster. Tossed it into the lake."
Pause for a moment.
"Should I know about the center? Is there a city or something?"

 

She leans back and crosses her arms, looking up in contemplation. She stays silent for a good, long moment.

"You should know to steer cleer of it. Whatever's causing the whole "living" bit's laired up in a mountain there, but nobody's gotten close enough to find out what it is, exactly."

 

"By 'nobody's gotten close enough' I assume you mean nobody survived long enough."

 

"... Yeeah. Don't go there."

 

"Eesh." I grimace.
"Oh, and you mentioned something about sticking this place somewhere earlier?"
Huh. Maybe I could have phrased that better, but hey- that's what she said.

 

"Yeah, uh, it's pretty easy if you have the time and means, I guess?"

She starts to count on her fingers.

"It's not really a natural desert, so you'll run into water if you get deep enough (1). Bring in a ton of soil (2), some tree saplings (3), and a bound shaper minion (4) to manage the whole thing and it'll sustain itself. Kinda proud of it, to be honest."
