The water's... fine. Nothing great, but it's drinkable.
Rounding the pond back to the north, you walk to that edge of the oasis. You're at the very least wearing shoes, but you can still tell just how much hotter it is once you're free of the treeshade.

 

Run even farther to the north

 

The sand eats at your legs, thretening to engulf them with every step. The sun, not yet properly risen from its slumber, provides a merciful temperature.
But not for long. The desert heats up at an exponential rate, and not 10 minutes later the inferno ignites. Not that you truly notice, however. While you were plodding through the sand as fast as you could, you trip over something buried inside of it.

 

Pull it out

 

You grip a long, rectangular box, maybe 5 feet from end to end. A worn, chipped key is still in the hole.
The box itself is made of a very plain wood, with the exception of the once-grand gold lock that the aforementioned key resides in. As a whole, it looks ancient.

 

Open it with said key

 

It's debatable if the lock has even held together after all this time, but with an explusion of sandy dust, the box clicks open.
Inside, there lies a breathtakingly realistic statue. It's carved in the likeness of a young girl in a beautiful [̢̣̆͒̇͢͞ͅȨ̖̲͍̒̓͊͡R̝͆R̜̣̃̕O͍̓Ŗ͕͓͓̱̃͊͋̿͊]̡̤̙̽̎̉́ͅ-style dress, taken by sleep.
The entire thing looks like a coffin, honestly. Also constained within the box is what appears to be the mummified remains of... food? You can't really tell, it's far too leathery in texture.
Finally, a compass. What makes it odd is that, if the rising sun remains true, the needle points to the south instead of the north.

 

Take coffin, walk south. :3
