Well, hi there! This thread is going to serve as discussion/speculation about Minecraft Dungeons II.

When I first heard about it, I was unsure whether to be upset or excited. Minecraft Dungeons I was a game I enjoyed a lot, and then the devs basically stopped working on it about 3 years ago, but didn't tell ANYONE for a whole year. The prices were also problematic, and so much of the game was paywalled despite the price being pretty high that it sort of felt insane. (Wynncraft is a game that I have paid less money to, and only for an optional cosmetic (my rank)). I want to believe that the game is going to be good and that they'll learn from their mistakes but... well... I just can't. If you, the reader, have different thoughts/opinions I would love to hear them below as I contemplate why Mojang started working on a part 2 to a game they said had its life span end.

I must say that I wasn't a massive fan of the original. I didn't buy any of the DLC, and so aside from playing with a friend who had them, I didn't get to experience any of that content. I think that this kind of soured my experience a bit. It felt very much like the game was a very mediocre game designed to sell improvements, and that when that stopped being relevant, they moved onto a sequel that I fear will be in the same vein. I feel like it has the bones of a good game, but that for some reason (pressure from above) a lot of that potential was squandered trying to encourage the player to pay more. I don't think I'll be getting the second unless they show that they (and by they I mean Microsoft, not Mojang) are willing and actively trying to make a good game, not just a profitable one. I will also admit that I am a bit bitter over the fact that, because I bought it on the Microsoft store, I will not be able to play the first one when I eventually upgrade to Linux on my desktop, despite the fact that the steam version apparently does work fine. ProtonDB suggests there are some workarounds, but I really shouldn't have to do that.
