"The moon orbits the sun, not the earth"
Why does one exclude the other? Why can't it orbit around both masses?

You've failed to define a satellite.

I couldn't find one from the IAU, so here's NASA's. Even so, we're supposed to be discussing planets, not satellites.

Since our actual subject is getting murky, I'll just say this: whatever the case, the earth and the moon are not a binary system. They do not orbit each other.

that's the one I've found too.
the problem is that the moon doesn't orbit the earth. As I've said like 3 times now, if the sun were to magically disappear, Luna would go away. In an actual satellite of Earth, it would continue to revolve around Earth.

Wonderful. That doesn't make it a planet.

    1. I did the math on Isaac Asimov's Tug-Of-War value in order to check myself, and sure enough, ((5.972*10^24)÷(1.989×10^30))×(152000000 ÷ 384472.282)^2)=0.46929088714, which means that the earth has half the tug on the moon than the sun does.
    2. Looking more into the definition of "double planet", it really just how you define a binary system. The earth-moon barycenter lies within Earth, so if you define a binary system as two objects where the barycenter lies outside of the primary object, then it's not binary, it's just two fucking weird planets or something?
Since the definition of "planet" doesn't fill in gaps with Luna, i guess it slips out as an average planet.
still, the moon is most definitely a planet.

It's most certainly not a binary system. It may be a planet by some definitions, simply because "clearing the neighborhood" is poorly defined. It fulfills the other requirements, but not that one (the way I've seen it defined, anyway). Orbiting the sun doesn't make it a planet either; as earlier defined, it can do such and still be a satellite.

Why would it fly away if the Sun would disappear? Cause I just googled the reason why the moon is drifting away, and it has nothing to do with the Sun, but with the Earth's tides.

If it hasn't cleared out it's orbit, neither has the Earth.

Cause, even when/if you hold a debate, you actually can and will admit if someone's argument is good or if you were mistaken. That's unlike this place. Usually, people just spit out nonsense in order to protect their stands, even when they are clearly wrong.
    So, kudos for that.

i learned not to do that by seeing donald trump do that
but Luna SHARES AN ORBIT with the earth. It goes along the same path, only fucked up by the earth. If there were objects in the moon's path, there would be objects along earth's as well.

the orbit pattern of the moon follows the earth while being influenced by the sun. it isn't all black and white, there is some grey it can be both

No, because other moons actually act as natural satellites

But on the first post, you said that if the moon were affected more by the earth it'd be spiraling towards us. Is that happening to other moons in this system?

Phobos and Triton are on collision courses for their planet and will be destroyed in only a few million years. Triton in specific will be torn apart and create rings around Neptune like Saturn's.
