If its not just the road to dern it will most like be the road to dern and at the end being a gateway to dern, no pun intended

 

I don't think a gateway/portal/whatever. Dern needs to physically be on the same world as the other provinces (long story, just trust me on this one)

 

What I mean by gateway is like an actual gate, like a big door, kinda like frumas

It's in the right spot for the Abandoned Mines. And gateway island does not physically appear on the map so it could be in another sea we are not aware of that the storm somehow brought us to.
