World Lootruns: Black Beacons and Endgame Missions

    One thing I've noticed about loot running from my many hours spent in Sky Islands running around hoping for boxed mythics from flying chests is that longer runs just aren't incentivized the same way shorter runs are. Shorter runs have more pulls per hour and the chance of finding shiny mythics, while long runs feel like a bit of a slog with not as much of a return on investment.

    My main way to solve this is simple: by adding a new beacon that only shows up after 80 challenges. This beacon would be unlocked at grandmaster level, and give powerful endgame missions that can be completed for extra sacrifices, rerolls, and even extending the mission cap. While the benefit from a black beacon mission would be high, so too would the cost of picking it up. Because of this, only one black beacon can be completed during a run.

    My idea for the black beacon would look something like this:

    Black Beacon: Choose an Endgame Mission out of 3

    To avoid confusion, grey beacons could be changed to something like:

    Grey Beacon: Choose an Standard Mission out of 3

    I've listed a few ideas for Endgame Missions below:

    • Soul Devourer: After finishing a Challenge, consume 10 Pulls and 1 (Standard) Mission for +1 End Reward Sacrifice.
    • Gambling Legend: Blue Beacons cannot appear anymore. After finishing a Challenge, consume 20 Boons for +1 End Reward Reroll.
    • Ascension: Orange Beacons cannot appear anymore. +50 Max Challenges, but after every 10 Challenges -1 Beacon Choice*.
    • Defiling Ritual: Purple Beacons cannot appear anymore. After finishing a Challenge, consume 2 Challenges to gain +10 Pulls.
    *If the amount of beacon choices reaches 0, the run automatically ends. This will also end orange beacon effects instead of removing one from the base amount of beacons offered, allowing the players to capitalize on the increased maximum challenges. This mission also would not give the challenges on its own, it would only increase the maximum.

    In short, the Endgame Missions should be run ending giving one last chance to players who might have had a long run with crappy missions to have one last chance to turn their luck around.
