Btw, helpful tip: if you're currently auto gathering any resource, if you turn to another resource within click range before the other one finishes, it will start gathering the next resource as soon as the first one is done. Also, you can organize your inventory or just look around if you like while gathering a resource.

Hmm, I'm thinking about it a bit more and you're probably right. I was mostly thinking about the travelling effort and if it would be worth it but now that I think about it, it would be worth it in almost every scenario.

Note that a rotation is the order that you go about collecting each node until reaching the beginning node.
My thinking is now as follows:
Let's say that it took 45 seconds to get all 13 nodes from the trout river. You still wait another 15 seconds for the first fish to spawn so:
    60/13 = 4.61 seconds per node
Let's say you added the pond of 7 nodes. This increases the time for a rotation by maybe 35 seconds.
    45+35=80 seconds per rotation
    13+7=20 nodes gathered
    80/20=4 seconds per node
Wow, since the rate is smaller, it is more efficient to include the travelling to the pond for this scenario.
Let's say that the time for a rotation takes anther 50 seconds (maybe you have a brown horse).
    45+50=95 seconds per rotation
    13+7=20 nodes gathered
    95/20=4.75 seconds per node
The rate is higher than if we had just stayed at the original pond. In this scenario, it's better to just stay at the 13 node river.

This is assuming like every rotation is perfectly the same in time. Obviously, this is never possible so testing this becomes somewhat tedious. Rates will also fluctuate a bit since the time it takes to move between node to node is different.
I think my original statement was still right in that it will still be efficient but now I think you can add more nodes to your rotation and still be efficient even if it exceeds 60 seconds.
    So yeah, you're right.

As long as the seconds per node that includes the new area does not exceed the rate you would have by just staying at the original area, it's worth it to add that area to your rotation.

To test this, you'd probably need to do some timing with a stopwatch to see how long your rotation is.
Not sure if my thinking is wrong, someone let me know. It's past midnight here.

I mean using stopwatches and stuff would kinda be a waste of time for gathering, since it's just a matter of preferences that I told you. Maybe you prefer little time and few nodes but many people (to the point I could say all) I asked preferred more nodes taking more time to collect, [I'm repeating myself here so you don't need to read] since the nodes respawn in time and you don't have to waste time just waiting and then starting again, and what you do it do it without stopping. It's also giving you a lot more nodes than gathering in a small area. There is a loss of potential max nodes just because it exceeds the max amount of nodes you could get in the smallest amount of time. (So, if I gathered it all in 60 secs then I'd get this much in a small area, and end up waiting. If I gathered from all these farms in one run then I wouldn't reach every node in 60 seconds but I don't have to wait and also I get a lot of materials anyway.)

In my opinion you could categorize them in 3 categories telling if it's long (exceeds 60 seconds by a big amount but gives a lot of total nodes), short (does not exceed 60 seconds in many occasions) and medium (might exceed the time limit in some occasions, but it can also be done in 60 seconds.

That's all I can say right now.

Oh, sorry I misunderstood. I guess I kinda understand that preference as well. It would be hard to time how long a rotation takes for each area/tool/level though since everyone's rotation differs so widely in time so categorizing would be difficult.

You could travel from place to place to gather more nodes but the travel time is important to consider as well. If my rate staying at point A is greater or equal to my rate of going back and forth between point A and point B, I rather stick with point A just because it's less work and I'm still gaining the same amount of nodes as the other method with less effort. The potential extra nodes can be as high as you want it to be but if you can't gather all of them at a rate that's higher than just staying at point A, you're not gaining more material than someone just waiting for the next node to respawn.

You can gather everything in one area and wait for the next node to respawn. You can also instead move to another farm and gather more material there. You're not necessarily gaining more though. Travel time pretty much acts as the waiting time. If you really don't want to wait though, I suppose travelling to different areas would suit your preference but your rate is important if you do this. In my opinion though, efficiency is much more important whether you're waiting or not.

Seems like there's some new (?) sandstone spots in the lower mesa at about 1040 -1480 and in a cave thing at 1140 -1560
Both spots have 7 nodes each but you can keep going between the two if you have enough walk speed
Cave spot has lots of mobs, other spot has mobs occasionally if they wander in or fall from above
Both places also have an okay amount of iron, definitely not enough to be viable on its own but it's nice if you're farming both sandstone and iron at the same time

Not new though I didn't put those spots down mostly because during the time, I thought 7 nodes of sandstone wasn't enough for it to be any good. The caves also have both iron and sandstone which is odd because from my experience, you never really need both materials at the same time. You usually go to a spot specifically for one kind of material.

I didn't think about travelling between the two caves though. They seem close enough so I'll add them. It would be a total of 14 sandstone nodes. Thank you.

Can confirm traveling between the two caves works well, this is the spot I used for sandstone.

It doesn't need to be fleshed out, trees are spread out in areas of the map's biomes so the amount of wood you cut depend on how much of the biome you are exploring.
