In short, we (me and my mother) found the bird sprawled in our drive way. It had a pretty bad back injury, and a hawk was perched on a branch, looking at it intently. We brought it in our garage, called the wildlife center nearby, and brought the animal to the center in a shoe box lined in toilet paper. When we were in the car, I left a little space open for the bird to breathe, and during the last couple of minutes, it tried to fly away. Apparently my mom had some magic control over the bird because she scooped it up and put into the box like it was nothing. We then got out the car (lid fully closed) and went into the center. We explained what we think happened to the bird, to the officials, and they took away the bird deeper into the building.
