    Hi! Ben here!
I've been sat here thinking about horses for a little while. I, as a player, have always been more into the roleplay and questing aspect of the game, less about the grindy-ness. That's why I came up with this suggestion. (I have no clue how this would work with in-game mechanics, but let's hope it could work)

Friendly reminder: this entire post was made with the assumption that you have the standard WASD walking configuration.

    The Idea
Horses have always been kind of boring, and not used a lot unless long distances had to be travelled. This is, in my opinion, partly because, if you have a fast horse(Black+), it can be tricky to maneuver through a city/town. So I propose the Car-Like Horse System!(Might need to work on that name). It would let you accelerate(W) and decelerate(S) your horse. Once it's at max speed, you can let go of W and it will continue going at max speed. To decelerate, press and hold S until standing still. Let go and press again to start walking backwards, which would stay the same, because it's already slow.

This would allow you to go slow, as you could press W for a short amount of time so you're not going full speed yet. It would differentiate between Gallop, Canter, Trot and Walk. It would be practical and more roleplay-y

Another way to implement this is with a hotbar config. As in, once you get on your horse, your hotbar switches to an acceleration hotbar. You could hold an item to accelerate, and another to decelerate(possibly a personal config so you could hold a weapon or potions in your hotbar still). This is just an alternative way to implement it into the game. No idea which one is easier.

    Thanks for reading!

I feel like this just overcomplicates everything and makes horses harder to use, our current system works fine
