Yes when you add zeros to WHOLE numbers it increases it, but adding zeros after the last number in a decimal it does nothing
2.70 is the same as 2.7
And as for 1.7.10, we are talking about the main versions (1.7, 1.8, 1.9, ect).

It's so ironic that the guy that "corrected" a few minor spelling mistakes of mine, the last one you mentioned wasn't even one, and you use multiple exclamation marks, it's you're instead of your, and you forgot a . after the last sentence.

    Oh, and speaking of overreaction...
Acid? Dumb? All @MonsterHunter621 did was answer your question, albeit in an oddly phrased way.

Version numbers don't mean regular decimals. 1.10 makes perfect sense. Version numbers can be displayed in different ways. Mojang uses a common method, where each number that changes signifies an update, and what number chagned defines how significant the update is.
Let's divide one of the versions, say 1.7.10, and identify each part.

    1 . 7 . 10

Let's start with 1. This is called the "major". This is the main part that most likely won't change. If it was a 0, it would indicate it is technically not complete. You can also identify this with a 1 and a "beta" or "alpha" before it. If it is a 2 or a number larger than 2, it indicates a very major change to the previous update, almost always meaning a sequel. Any change in this number means a very significant update to the game.

Let's move onto 7. This is called the "minor". Although they are very large updates, they are minor compared to if the first number had changed. Developers aren't forced to never be able to use numbers larger than 9. They can go to 10, they can even go to 100 if they want. They aren't arbitrarily limited.

Finally, the 10. This is called the "build". Builds are the least significant of the 3. They indicate bug fixes, security patches, and very minor and insignificant features. The fact it is 10 is perfect proof version numbers don't follow the decimal system. Remember, 1.7.10 is an actual Minecraft version, you can check for yourself if you like. Additionally, the fact there are 3 periods instead of two are also very good proof the version numbers don't follow the decimal system. You cannot have multiple periods, or decimals, in a single number following the decimal system.

TL;DR Mojang are correct in the way they handle the version numbers. No need to worry about them getting simple elementary math wrong.
