You know the more i look at the map and the more I think about it the more i feel like wynncraft tectonics actually make sense, who would've tought adding all these basins would actually save my immersion ! Explaining all of it would require a whole wynntectonics thread and this is the hdrology thread so here's a few things i don't understand instead :

What are all these arch doing in the jungle??
    archs.png
I'm not an expert in any of this but it'd take *incredibly weird* geology for all these to form naturaly

How does the ocean work ? Where does the wynn plate end? does it go all the way to gavel? Are the mountains on the sides coming from other plates or is the wynn one real weird? How the hell did the maro peaks form? what's up with the islands ??
    understanding the ocean.png

I don't even dare to think about the COTL (magic titan makes it shift? was it just plains at one point then?) or the SE (dark mountains pop off the ground because of the influence of darkness ??? what's always been there and what's dern fuckery then??)

Also the mesa basin's a bit weird,
    mesa.png

Keep in mind I have a mostly basic knowledge of tectonics.

I mean if that was the case maro peaks should shift then no? Has the colosus just lost influence over that region? You could explain the weirdness of the peaks by saying that they've been cut off from the coast by the colosus shaping the canyon tho hmmm.

Yeah some things are just explained by magic in wynn. And they better be, because i don't know how else they could be justified if not by literal magic lmao

yes it does. there's an opening in the almuj wall for the water to flow under. it flows into the lake in the savannah and then under a land bridge before splitting off to pirate bay and ancient nemract

    ________________________________
people please use the 3d map, there's multiple waterfalls in pigman ravine which explains the weird path through the valley
    upload_2024-2-2_14-35-29.png
but other than that, yes i agree that it's very fucked up and doesn't make much sense, but there is an underlying explanation as to why the main wynn river gets larger and isn't just fed by the twain waterfall
    ________________________________
the waterfall being frozen over doesn't matter since the actual flow of water isn't blocked, it's just a surface layer of ice. the ice will rise and fall with the water level and has very little effect on the actual amount of water flow. twain lake (if you're talking about the one next to nesaak and not the one outside the mansion) doesn't make sense, i'll give you that, especially with the large cavern underneath which doesn't seem to be a source but rather a place for the water to flow. the lake outside twain mansion is less of a lake and more of a wider section of river, which is explained by the large landmass in the middle which would split the waterflow and make it seem like a large lake.
    ________________________________
that would only make sense if the water slowed down at the point it got wider, which happens when a river arrives at a large flat plain and is able to take a meandering path with lots of bends. upload_2024-2-2_14-43-31.png
This usually causes oxbow lakes where the water eventually cuts off the bends upload_2024-2-2_14-44-22.jpeg
    upload_2024-2-2_14-45-12.png

slow rivers can often cause swamp environments too, as the slow water flow causes the ground to become saturated easier.

thanks gcse geography for letting me talk about fucked up rivers in a minecraft mmo forum

afaik there were two titans, one in the canyon and one in the sky island, so maybe the sky island one created maro peaks, then when it fell to the void, the peaks were left as-is

It’s speculated to be an extension of the canyon due to the fact that it perfectly aligns with the canyon over the mountains

Okay, here's my serious answer for all this weird stuff on the map: For the sake of gameplay, Wynncraft isn't built to scale.

The province of Gavel is like, 4 square kilometers wide and 1.5 kilometers tall, if we assume a minecraft block is a meter. If it was a real place that existed in some world it would probably be 100 times larger and would also contain cities with more than twenty houses - and it would probably have proper hydrology. Given how many years it took for Bak'al's army to reach Ragni, I'd reckon that the map is meant to be scaled far larger lorewise than how it is ingame.

I did more than just use the 3d map I went there in game, like you can see from my other screenshot.
There are multiple waterfalls, but they still make absolutely no sense. They're these huge waterfalls that flow bigger than the main river and the main river doesn't get any bigger whenever in gets into contact with any of them.

I understand why you could think I didn't see it because if you take my 2d screenshot, the flow makes even less sense. The red arrows were meant to show waterfalls, but I forgot to add the legend in my post. Also the one I put on "Time Valley" is way too far east.

yeah i thought that might be the case but from the way they were drawn following the river it looked just like a flow indicator
    ________________________________
im not sure what you mean? the flow originates somewhere around almuj - ingame it's completely surrounded by land, flows down through almuj on both sides, with one side ending in a lake within almuj's walls and the other side leaving almuj under the wall and flowing through the savannah, into the savannah lake and down into pirate bay and ancient nemract. the highest point in the river is almuj bank, so it has to originate there.
    ________________________________
this is the highest point of the water in almuj, and there's no other openings for water to enter anywhere around the bank. 2024-02-03_14.33.11.png

I think he means that the water flows down from the savanah lake
    abc.png
    Into the city of almuj
    abcd.png
You can see in the images that the water flows down. The water going up in almuj could be explained by a system of pumps within the city. That or it just flows upstream because magic I guess.

well then yeah, that's just bad hydrology again. it *should* flow down INTO the lake and not out of it, towards almuj. i really doubt that they'd use hand cranked pumps to pump water that's purely for aesthetics, and i doubt they'd do the same for magic, since mana is not an infinite free resource, similar to energy. in reality, almuj or even the entire desert would be a big lake with a source under the bank and in the savannah lake, and even the waterfall in the northern mountains if the whole desert is flooded. you don't even need to do much to fix this issue, literally just lower the surface level of the lake to be at the same level as the water leaving almuj, or remove the lake entirely and just make the river flow continuous.

I appreciate the duo comedy of Realm of Dry but I kinda expected Sky Islands Void being used as the end input

Maybe Theorick froze Nessak by using too much fire magic? In the next patch he should deal fire damage instead.

In old version of Fate of the Fallen past Theorick gives you a Rickeo's flame item(not sure if I said the name wrong).
Theorick stole Rickeo's fire magic and attempted to drain the corruption portal with it, but failed so he freeze Nessak instead.
