But seriously, first the mysterious egg from that dark forest secret discovery and now this
"The egg is showing no signs of watching soon"
What draws me here is the terminology used, if I saw this in a game I'd think "Oh, that probably just means that this egg is useless. The devs probably didn't have enough time to add any feature related to it, maybe on the next update?"
Or maybe it could be like pokemon and the phrase will change as the egg gets progessively closer to hatching, but I'm betting my money on the fact that it's just another useless item, maybe added to get people theorycrafting

Uhh... I really hope that there isn't actually any way to hatch the egg rn, I hope that it's more like "once you find the secret the developers will update the game with more stuff", cause if not people will go scavenge the map in ways that are... less than ideal. I don't know if I'm even allowed to talk about this, but I'm pretty sure the ct already had to cancel some projects because people kept hacking and accessing parts of the map they shouldn't to find secrets and whatnot
hopefully it's just a minor thing and not some community-wide event...

Alright, since I have nothing else to do, it's analysis time
the first 3 messages to me seem to match your thory about having to walk a ridiculous amount of blocks for it to hatch. It's technically "possible", just extremely annoying and probably almost impossible to tell if you're on the right path by doing so
the last message(s) are kinda weird tho, why wouldn't you be able to hatch it in the beta if all you need to do is walk? Could it be because more people have to complete the quest/be online for it work? This would be much harder in the beta because there are less players. Or maybe is it because you'd need more than one wc to hatch the egg? There's currently only one in the beta afaik (I made a mistake, there are actually a few servers there)
Maybe they really just haven't implemented it yet, and that's why you can't do it in the beta. Maybe when the update goes live the egg will change from "showing no signs of hatching" to something else
Anyways, the fact that lexnt says it's an incredibly cruel item maybe means that not only is the process of hatching it extremely arduous, but also that the "reward" for doing so wont be anything special.
Oh and btw, if you really can hatch it by just walking then maybe having some kind of "fire" item on your inventory/near the egg might accelerate the process, just like pokemons with the "flame body" ability help hatch eggs faster

 

What if it literally just requires you to hold it in your inventory for 384 irl hours to hatch like in the diary
