How necessary are professions?

Hi! I'm a returning player who hasn't played for many years. Last time I logged in, professions weren't necessary to experience the full depth of Wynncraft. I'm wondering if that statement still holds true?

the *full* depth of wynncraft? to experience 100% of what the game has to offer, yes they are necessary
but for all the *meaningful* content? definitely not. most players find them extremely boring, and the game assumes you are not interacting with them.
so the answer is yes, the statement still holds true, as much as it ever did.
