    the item team is EPIC omega biased because class builds

    others are ok, the content that is made is imo cool, but also communication problems. note that this is a really broad statement, as i actually don't know much about the rest of the ct as individual teams

    wish ct could do something big that adds content, like in gavel, not grind. So yeah I just want more content, and at least a fun grind, not a boring ass one like crafting.

    So I havent been on the content team in a while but I can speak to how it used to work, and how many of the problems I'm seeing in this thread are because of the things I saw.

    First of all, The Content Team is a bunch of volunteers, and young young volunteers at that. When I was still on at 17 I was probably one of the oldest, the youngest we had at one point was 9 I wanna say. And let's be honest that's definitely too young to be making content, but most were between 12-15. They're younger and although that doesn't mean that they automatically are trash, it does mean a lot of complex ideas and story beats arent something they can always come up with and that leads to the management.

    Second, the micro management of the team caused a lot of problems, every little thing had to go through Grian and had to be checked off, because the younger age I believe couldnt be trusted(look at the update that added the frozen ice biome, the GM literally wrote "I'm sorry :(" and that made it in game. So obviously there has to be some oversight but it was so micromanaged that it became difficult to get any quests done as you have 5 quests being micromanaged by 1 guy, and all the builds being run by the same guy. Then of course when his YT channel popped off that interfered. Ultimately it leads to most quests were basically written by one very overly stressed guy and so of course they're gonna start bleeding and blending together and become kind of boring. Then again it's not like you can do much because let's be honest the only people who are likely to play this are younger, let alone devote a lot of time for free. Most older people just cant afford to do it.

    Thirdly, look straight up most people on the Content Team were straight up awful, just not fun people. It's a game and you gotta have fun doing this or it's not going to be fun to play. They didnt have fun

    Fourthly, straight up being on the content team makes you arrogant. You dont wanna listen to the players about what they want, you think you know what they want. I know because I did it, I've seen it. You really drift from being a player and you just feel as though you're above it. And it's not just me I personally saw, and personally contributed to, players being openly mocked from the forums and community and one of the design mottos of quests for a long time(trust me I literally wrote the google doc on design that we would send to new GMs) was that we need to treat the players like they were retarded. It's a toxic place and a very IN-group team

    I've kidna rambled and lost my point, theres a lot to say on the content team, and like I said its been a few years so maybe it's all different but I've heard from leaks it's still pretty much like it was when I was on. The main thing I'm really trying to say is The content team is a bunch of young volunteer kids who arent quite good enough writers to necessarily be in charge on their own, which leads to massive micromanagement in a system that doesnt allow a lot of options and that they often get big egos and drift from the playerbase.

    Things have changed quite a bit since you left. One of my personal project in 2015-16 (roughly, somewhere after gavel) was to change the CT culture to be much less strict and give people more freedom to be creative in general. I think it shows in the quality of quests (and content) from before Gavel to now. Maybe slower, but definitely improved. Also we don't treat player as being "retarded", we used to tell CT to imagine players as children but we've since changed it to imagining players as "drunk people". Players aren't dumb, but they don't always notice everything as well as you (the one making the content) would. It's not a trick for us to feel superior, but to make sure our designs are player-friendly because you can easily lose scope of the work when you've been working on it for months.
