    Horse Breeding

Let's face it, horse breeding sucks. It's a crapshoot, and not a fun crapshoot either. I understand the need, in an MMO economy, to take money out of that economy to counteract inflation. But there are ways of doing that which are engaging to the player, like an actual casino. This isn't that.

The most intuitive way of doing this would be to base the chance for an upgrade on the level of the horse. In fact, before I checked the Wiki, I assumed it was already based on that. It is, to me, the most intuitively obvious game mechanic for an RPG breeding system. As far as I've been able to discover, no one has come up with a good formula for how that mechanic would work on Wynncraft. Here's mine:

    Chance of Upgrade (CoU):
    • (Horse 1 %) x (Horse 2 %) - 10% = CoU%
Say you breed two Level 9 Brown Horses. 9/10 = 90% x 90%, which is 81%. Minus 10% gives you a CoU of 71%. Two fully-leveled horses have a CoU of 90%. This encourages people to level up their horses fully before breeding them, but still maintains a solid element of chance. It encourages actually engaging with the horses you're breeding, rather than just throwing emerald blocks at an NPC.

    Chance of No Upgrade (CoNU):
    • (100% - CoU%) x 80% = CoNU%
    • Avg((Horse 1%) + (Horse 2%)) x CoU% = Child Horse%
Take the two fully-leveled horses mentioned previously. Since the CoU for them is 90%, (100% - 90%) = 10%, times 80% = 8%. That means for two fully-leveled horses, there's an 8% chance that you'll get a horse of the same tier instead of an upgrade. But, to ease the pain of the player, the child horse is leveled up some already - Specifically, to the average of the parent horses' levels multiplied by the CoU. So the stronger the parents, the stronger the child, but not as strong, because it's still a child.

    Chance of Downgrade (CoD):

    • CoU% - CoNU% = CoD%
    • Avg((Horse 1%) + (Horse 2%)) = Child Horse%
The first calculation should be intuitive if you've followed the math so far - Two fully-leveled horses have a 2% chance of producing a child horse of one tier lower. However, that child's level is the straight average of the level of the parent horses, making it easier to get right back into breeding again.

    In Conclusion

I hope all these formulas make sense to everybody. As someone who has played a lot of RPGs, there is almost always some mechanic in the breeding system to reward the player for leveling up the parents to produce stronger children. I was shocked to discover that Wynncraft's breeding system was based on pure chance. Let me know if you have anything you'd like to add, or if you think the algorithm needs tweaking, and if so how.

    Best,

You do have a point there...
But really, currently the inflation is only slowed by guilds and horse breeding

Perhaps an *actual* casino is called for, but that's a separate suggestion thread to make.

I like the idea but perhaps it should be calculated a different way.
