Legitimate Question:
I'm a hobbyist game dev. If an issue gets reported, or I see one, I will grab the failing piece of code, edit it, test it and ship it. I don't see the issue.
If I'm also working on something big that would completely break the game if I pushed it, as it's unfinished, whenever I get a bug reported, I will just comment out all the new code for the patch version, and use the old scene from the launched game.
If I'm doing say, a complete code rework, I will open not the newest version of the project, but the version people have. I will then attempt to fix it, and whenever I have, I will ship that version. I will then 'copy' the fix over to my newer version too, so the bug is also fixed in the yet to be launched version.

So, I don't understand, why you can't update the game? You realise how gamebreaking this is? I bet there are at least 5 people currently abusing this, out of which 3 probably don't even know it's illegal. It's not like everyone pays attention to the forum? And then what, if they didn't know? Should they be banned for not having a forum account, because the game itself was broken and they didn't know or realise it? It's not like this is a dupe glitch. When you're duping, you're very aware of what you're doing, and that it isn't allowed. This isn't the case here.

 

Cubie, you of all people should be very well aware of how things are updated on Wynn and how impossible it is to just push an update without pushing everything else with it.
When we're this far in an update we cannot push any patches or fixes without pushing the rest of the update. Because of this we have to wait for the update for the actual fix for this issue to be available.
There is basically no way for us to push small patches unless we've not made significant progress on an update, code or CTwise.

We tell the person what they're doing is wrong, if they continue then they're banned.

 

What makes you say this? Because I'm a builder, who knows nothing about anything GMs or the Admins do to push updates, but just builds stuff whenever he's asked. I have no idea how you push your updates. I thought I made that clear.

Isn't it possible, for the next times, to make a backup of all of your files and the map, that you could edit and ship whenever something gamebreaking shows up? Considering that backup wouldn't have any 'new update' on it.

Is this because it would be unfinished, or because your current system somehow doesn't allow small updates to be pushed for some reason? The first seems like it could be dealt with.

I would have expected everyone that's been involved in the Content Team to know how updates work and how the map is pushed to main.

You can't just push a piece of the map or a part of it, you have to bring the whole thing to the main servers.
This means all the new mob edits, all the quests, all the builds, all the regions, and items.
Cutting out all the progress that was made to fix something is extremely unrealistic and basically impossible to do for how Wynncraft does updates.

We literally cannot push small patches and fixes when it comes to the map, mobs, and items without pushing everything else with it.

This is why the temporary solution is to tell people not to abuse these spots until they can be fixed, which is hopefully soon.
We are still giving chances and telling them about the rule change because we recognize not everyone is going to know it first time around so they deserve to be told about it.

However, after they're told then they know it is not the right thing to do and is considered glitch abuse and they will be banned.

 

I understand you can't push a part of fbe map, or something like that, but could you have (in theory) have a backup of the entire server, that isn't worked on at all, unless when a bug needs to be fixed, at which point a high up GM or Builder goes into that world/files and fixes whatever issue may exist. This backup now has everything the server has (so, nothing with a new update) and the fix. Couldn't you then ship this backup to the main server, while you continue to work on the update on the original?

 

That is highly unrealistic for us to do. In a perfect world, yes we probably could do something similar, but realistically we just can't.

That is some very wishful thinking and if it does then I have no clue about it.

Because the refactor is just cleaning up the code, making it easier to add onto and edit it.

 

Could you at least, perhaps, ask Salted about it. He'd know if it's viable or not. If it is, this could prevent many gamebreaking glitches like these from existing long enough to do damage.
Just imagine if someone found a dupe glitch and you couldn't fix it because the update was only 50% done? The server would be screwed.

There are two sets of servers. The test servers, which get pushed to the main servers.

Now, you are implying that you have to push the test server to fix it, however, instead, if you decompile the plugin that handles this shit, fix it, recompile, and throw it into the main server and not the test one, it could be fixed.
Or if your brain cells didn't understand (Almost seems like you didn't, you're still giving people crap for memes) what I said, copy-paste the main server, fix the bug, and load in the second version as a push.

And then after that you can enjoy memes because there is no more problem
