So, being fairly new to the server (as of typing this I have only played one session) and as a level 20 Mage (a class which I have heard could be hard to excel in) I thought it might be a good idea to ask what things I should really consider when levelling and choosing what to spend skill points etc. on. (And yes, I have read the Mage guide and the normal Mage page on the wiki, but neither seems to give any clear advice on the matter.)
Any and all replies are greatly appreciated!

Mage is generally one of the easiest classes. Going with intelligence (lowers mana costs on spells) and agility (gives you X% chance to take no damage from an attack) is usually the best option for newer players, but feel free to go with something else instead. Personally I use an earth (strength)-water (intelligence) spell build on my mage.

Idk who in the world would tell you mage is difficult it's probably the easiest to use outside of possibly warrior.
At low levels, builds (outside of xp bonus) and what you put your skill points into don't matter other than putting them into things to use gear/armor. In terms of spells, the amount of heals you get from heal spell is based off of water % damage and total hp. Ice snake, a spell you get at level 31, essentially shuts down every single melee mob in existence once it immobilizes mobs for 2 seconds (t2 level 46), so usually the only major problem is ranged mobs or mobs that are quick enough to where you might miss the ice snake. Generally speaking most mages have spell damage builds (even though melee/hybrid is perfectly fine on mage) due to the fact that the class itself is based around spells. There is no bad skill point to dump extra sp into on mage (same goes for all the other classes besides archer since for archer dumping spare sp into defense is essentially useless) so you can choose whatever you want. Use http://wynndata.tk/mana/ to see how much intel you should put in if you ever do put intel in, so you can hit a certain threshold of spell reduction.

Anyway, what you spend your skill points on generally doesn't matter until around level 68 (maybe), when you fight your first "hard" (then again, you're using mage) boss. Usually, until that point (on my first class), I usually focused on what weapon I had, and reset my skill points whenever my weapon changed. The weapon I had was 99% of the time the highest level Legendary I could get my hands on.

Since you're going with mage, I would suggest keeping any Mana Regen (or if you're cool, then Mana Steal) items you find (don't bother go looking for them, it's not worth it).

Welcome to Wynncraft, I hope you enjoy it here!

Here are a few additional tips about skill points:

    - The Intelligence Skill is considered by many to be the best in the game and is recommend for anyone going for a spell-based mage, since it reduces the cost of your spells. Keep in mind that you only have one damaging spell (Meteor, unlocked at level 21), but it gets the job done. Furthermore, intelligence allows you to use Water weapons, and water damage improves your heal spell.

    - Defense makes you take less damage and agility lets you dodge attacks. Defense is represented by the Fire element and Agility by air, both of which fit well with Water. It depends, would you rather have a chance to take 0 damage or consistently take slightly less damage?

    - Strength and Dexterity improve your damage, but I'd recommend Dexterity and its Thunder items. If you go with water items, you'll end up with some negative thunder defense, which isn't good. Having the skills to use thunder items lets you patch those up. That's not to say that strength is bad, it consistently boosts your damage and there are some good strength/Earth items out there. Generally, thunder items are less defensive and Earth items make you slower.

    - Alternatively, you can equally invest all your skill points! While a 4/4/4/4/4 build won't let you use that 10 strength req wand, you are able to use that 3 dexterity, 3 defense wand (hypothetically, I'm making these items up). This is a viable strategy in the late game too, and you tend to end up as a jack of all trades.
