Damn, it was a lot prettier in my head when I think back to when I first joined. Now that I see it, I'm getting hardcore Megido vibes. It's amazing what a great texturepack and a bit of retouching can do to improve the appearance of Wynn.

 

Why would you use texture packs, using shears to whack zombies was absolutely hilarious

Coincidentally, it's my 6 year anniversary on Wynncraft :D Only missed the first year xD

My God, I still remember joining ages ago. Time to share some memories!

I first joined when I introduced a friend of mine to CraftedMovie. He remarked on the Wynncraft trailer, which I said I didn't watch because I didn't care that much about it. But he suggested to try out the server anyway, because why not?
So we joined. Back then, the tutorial area was more a trench than a ravine, and it took you less than a minute to get through. We talked to the king, and exited the castle.
I'll never forget that moment. The city of Ragni appeared before us, Citizens everywhere, and the music started playing. At the time, there was no Gavel, all textures were vanilla and so were the note block sounds. I had chosen the Warrior class, so I was fighting with a shovel -- but it never felt like that. I felt like I was playing a different game entirely, something not made in Minecraft, even though the game looked far more crude back then. That feeling never faded. Every time I disconnect from the server, it feels weird that I'm suddenly looking at the Minecraft title screen.
So we got to Ragni, but my friend had to go. To the left of the north road was this little flat stone wall that I immediately recognised from the Ender Pearl short. I went to stand in front of it and closed the game.

My friend and I played it a lot the following weeks. I remember starting Enzan's Brother and having absolutely no clue where Therck was. My friend found him when I was maybe level twenty, and I was so relieved when he showed me where he was. It took us quite a while to find Detlas as well. I believe he found a lot of things that I didn't know where they were, but he wasn't as good as finding his way back to them. Looking back on it, the fact that he constantly got lost was probably why he had found Almuj a week before I did. Neither of us discovered the Rymek Canyon (back then just the Canyon) until we were ten levels past it. It was loads of fun just stumbling through the wacky world of Wynncraft. I unfortunately have lost touch with that friend. No hard feelings at all between us, we simply stopped communicating. But the memories live on.

Later I found out about the upcoming Gavel Update. Grian had this thing planned, the Gavel Week, where every day he streamed the development of Gavel. Discussing what you saw was a bannable offense, so you had to be there. I didn't know how late the live streams started, so I kept the Chrome tab open in the background while I did other things.
Every stream, Grian had a play list of music playing in the background. He didn't shuffle it, it was always the same. So every stream started with the same song, which, after I frantically tried to hunt it down, was Digital Love by Daft Punk. That song has a special place in my heart because of it. Playing Wynncraft, or Portal 2 or whatever, and suddenly hearing that tune fade in, announcing another Gavel Stream, was special. I remember Grian showing the wide array of trees they had built for the Light Forest, which were all located on a big glass slab right above said forest. He showed the giant statue in the Canyon of the Lost and how he created the terrain near the abandoned prison. He also did a bunch of giveaways of Gold Coins during the streams, of which I won one. I can still do /shop, which shows I have about 210 GC left. I used the rest to buy a Loot Bomb, which I used together with my friend in Ternaves. It didn't do much. In retrospect, I wish I used the coins for a pet.

This was also around the time when IgbarVonSquid was really active. He made Grian_has_SeS_on_camera.mp4 and nicefind.avi, which -- thinking about it -- might be the first proper memes Wynncraft's ever had. I can recite both of these from memory.

Many SoonTMs later, Gavel came out. I was initially not happy at all about the update, and I made a dumb thread about it which might still be up, providing 9/7 didn't snap it from existence. I made a new class, another Warrior, played to about level 45 and then quit for a long time. The reason for that was I think because I kept finding Jokers instead of usable spears, so I could barely progress. Also I was terrible at the game. I spent a lot of time here on the forums, which was a lot of fun. I still remember events like the Tealy Hunt, and the immense things PillowPet organised.

It's sad to have seen so many people go, but it's beautiful to see so many new people join. And of course there have been moments of anger and frustration stemming from this game, but their numbers are nothing compared to the amount of joyful memories Wynncraft has provided me with. Thank you Wynncraft! <3

 

Man I really wish I could visit the old maps

 

Ah, the good ol' days of pre-gavel Wynncraft. Sometimes I really wish there would be downloadable maps from back then to look at how Wynn used to look like.
The only thing I have that survived the item conversion with the gavel update, and what reminds me of how it was back then, with little to no IDs, is my Pelier <3

 

I have really been playing this game for too long, oh god.

 

In 1 or 2 months i will also get my joined 7 years ago i dont know if i still got the screens but my favorite place was desert and jungle best dungeon was animal dungeon i really miss it.

wow its been a while

 

Tried looking back to find old screenshots from when I played in 2013 and couldn't find anything, sadly. Man, do I remember grinding the silverfish pit in the desert, though. Even updates like Corkus Island feel a lot older than just three years. The beginning feels like ages ago, but the memories and friends I made back then have always stuck with me. This is the oldest I could find, from November 2013, though I joined in July. Oinkers is still by my side today!

But damn 7 years is a while, its great that Wynn is still moving forward :D

Wow! I totally forgot how old Wynn used to look. Amazing to see the improvements, and it's crazy to see how time passes so fast.
