Technically, I'm the protagonist, as I'm attempting to fulfill the goal of the thread, and therefore are portrayed by the story in a positive (hehe) light. Those counting down are in opposition to that objective, and therefore the antagonists.
I will not claim main character status, as that position shifts with time.

Oh I just used the word antagonist cuz it means "the opposition." Relative to us, you're the antagonist, as much as we're the antagonist in your perspective.

Exactly, the antagoist technically doesn't make them a bad guy and the protagonist doesn't make them a good guy. The protaginist is just the character we follow and the antagonist is the character who opposes them. If i made a movie from thanos's side he'd be the protaganist and the avengers owuld be the antagonists

Yep! A lot of antagonists are written as "the protagonists of their own stories" because most of the times, they really are! These antagonists are fighting for something they believe in, or protecting someone they love, or wishing to do something they believe is "for the greater good," much like protagonists do.

well like with thanos he was trying to make sure like overpopulation didnt hurt anyone but there are cases where the antagonist is just out of pure malice or greed such as fire lord ozin in avatar.

I'd say even Fire Lord Sozin was his own protagonist. He wanted to colonize the other nations believing that it would help them because of how prosperous the Fire Nation was. He was after the avatar only because he knew they would stop him, as his former friend Avatar Roku tried.
