Generic Fantasy - [5/7]

Am in bed, typing on buggy 3DS. Homeowrk totaled 7 hours, and will respond twice tomorrow to make up for it.

 

Will reply once more in the next six hours, forty minutes.

Caster is surrounded by translucent barrier, with color of their choosing. Barrier will stop all T1 attacks, and all spells below rank II. It can survive one hit.

You have learned [Blade of Wind I]!
Caster summons invisible +0 Sword, shape of their choosing, to their hand. It will last 1 minute (10 turns).

You have learned [Quicksand I]!
Caster entraps one opponent in quicksand, denying them 2 turns.

It being a less-than-flammable stone castle might make things a bit more problematic.
Besides, it's an entire magic district. There have to be some people selling spellbooks somewhere outside that infernal place.

 

At that point, it's not worth it. I go back to looking for street urchins and buying food.

 

"*Sigh* I guess I'll look for ways of spreading my destruction somewhere else."
I go look for a place I can buy some new spells, preferably a black market or something like that. Also I use Color Change on my robe to make it more explosion themed.

 

Kae took a second to think before responding. She lowered her voice even more. "If someone were to, err . . . try and destroy or uh . . . set the building on fire or something . . . would the guards care, or what would happen?" she said slowly.

 

There are two major taverns on the street, one seeming quite a bit more lawful than the other.
A few street gangs can be seen, and there's definitely an urchin sitting at the edge of one small alley.
He seems to be in his... 30's, maybe? He has overgrown blond hair, and a large assortment of knives. He's reading a book, but you can't make out the title from here.

You meander around the city for quite a bit, and the good news is that it can be comfortably divided into 7 parts.

Spoiler: Exposition

1. The riverside, the southern strip with a bunch of docks and warehouses.
2. The magic district, most of the southwestern side,
3. The center, a bunch of rich snobs and where the inn you're staying is,
4. The market, a huge open stall area occupying the center-south,
5. The middle-class areas, distressingly tiny and sequestered in the northwest block,
6. The slums, most of the east side, and
7. The really bad slums, on the northeast.

The black market you're looking for is probably in either #7 or secluded in #4.

The bartender's eyes narrow, and his voice is clearly annoyed at this point. "I'm sure many of 'em would be mighty pissed off at their favorite bar burnin' down, and would put out the fire before arrestin' or killin' whoever started it. That all?"

 

Thorston mutters something to himself about being a good person and goes to the more lawful tavern to buy food.

Sorry about not taking the plot hook, but that guy's not quite what Thorston's looking for with the homelessinati.

You open the door, being greeted by a somewhat full tavern. It's certainly not bursting.
There's a man in leather with a spear resting by the entrance, and on closer inspection he looks like he has bandages a broken leg.
There are quite a few injured people, actually. mos tof the tavern, on closer inspection. No bard in the corner, but there's a man juggling on a table.
The bartender's an old woman, and is currently talking with younger injured woman, this one with an utterly massive sword next to her. The bartender's face is quite grim, and it only seems to be getting worse with whatever the one with the sword's telling her.

It's once you reach the market that all roads lose any semblance of urban planning.
There are buildings haphazardly strewn all over, and whatever space is left in squares and roads and such is jammed with stalls.

Yes.

You're back in the square in front of the castle, and any pets you but in the nearby area would probably be -
Yup, there's a store.
You open it and are greeted by rows of cages, each one home to a magical pet of some sort. At least, you're assuming they're magical? Some of them look like normal animals.
There's somebody that sounds like they're having a life and death battle with some beast in the back room.

 

I start looking for the most interesting/deadly creature in my price range and also the ones that take interest in me if any of them do

 

I go looking for place where I can buy spells.

 

I wait, trying to listen in to what the injured woman's talking about without being caught doing it.

 

Ill kill off this character I bet if I stay in this tavern

"Err, yes that's all. Thank you." Kae swooped away from the bartender turning on her heels. She aimed for the exit, thinking that it was hopeless and dangerous to be staying inside the tavern. Instead, she would wait for her two original targets to come outside. Besides, she didn't want to continue to pester the bartender.

[Im too lazy to give the rest of this in detail so here you go]

Kae exits building. Does not wait directly in front of the building as for that would be stupid. Waits somewhere not next to but off to the side (left or right) of the entrance of the building (like still in view if someone were to peak out of the door from the inside).

 

Most of them are priced in the hundreds of gold coins. There are quite a few cool and deadly-looking beasts, but those are priced in the quadruple digits.
There are only three you can afford: A small shoulder-lizard (50 GC), a small and weak-looking cat (20 GC), and an average-seeming bird (40 GC).

There's a shady peddler with quite a few books, a decrepit-seeming bookstore, and a 'magic oddities' stall in your immediate vision.

Spoiler: Dialoglog

Injured Woman: "- and so that's how Lou's eye got stabbed out -" she gestures to a man napping on a table with bandages over his eye "- and we finally thought that skipping town was a good idea. Then, lo and behold, the building next to us explodes, tearing off half the skin on my arm."
Bartender: "What building was it?"
Injured Woman: ".... a tavern. One I actually liked, too."
Bartender: "Wait, you mean the Riverthrone Tavern? I know the girl who works there, did sh-"
Injured Woman: "Dead."

The tavern falls nearly silent, and you get a general feeling of an important confrontation happening in the building right now.
It's an agonizing 3 minutes later that one of the cultists bursts through the door, panicking. He rapidly turns to the closest person (you) and asks if you've seen two extremely suspicious-looking men, one in a wheelchair.

 

I visit all three places in backwards order.

 

If the sound of the life and death battle are still happening I go se what it is if not I wait for them to show up

 

Hoy shit! I would have never imagineed that most deaths in this rp would be caused by boredom.

 

It's honestly quite frightening.

The magic oddities stall is run by what you think is an old man? Certainly older than you, by the cane and how he's moving. You can't really tell because he has 50 scarves wrapped around every square inch of his body. There are a whole bunch of strange devices, nice looking foci, and a few spellbooks on sale.
The old man looks up at you (at least, you think this slightly thinner patch of scarf is his face..), and you hear some muffled sounds.
Seller: "Ah, would you be interested in any of my goods?

It doesn't take longer than a minute before a bloodied and scarred young elven man walks out of the back room. Or is he half-elven? You don't really know how pointy their ears are supposed to be.
He nonchalantly wiped off the blood and applies some bandages, before asking:
"Hello, and welcome to Erekreiar's Excellent Animal Emporium! Is there a specific reason you came here?

 

"Yes I would. What do you have to offer?"
