Generic Fantasy - [5/7]

I read all three books.

It a text based adventure games joke; at least I think it is.
Just type Y for Yes, or N for No.
It's probably a lot device to get Thorston into a specific time in story.

 

You exit the academy building and are back in the magic section of the city.
Right outside the castle is a large square, and multiple different magic vendors around it.
There's some for spells, potions, magic items, ritual materials, etc.

The only reason they're here at all is that you already have. You can recall their basic premises and ideas.

The first one is a straight physical book that demonstrates the nature of dreaming in the brain, and how it's affected by outside circumstances, cognition, and ideas.

The second, however focuses more on how those who have the capabilities of wielding immense magic can create and affect entire dreamscapes, how one can bring others into them, and the problems that occur when multiple of these people interact.
Most of it was theoretical, but the basic ideas had been tested at the time of the book's writing.

You attempt to recall the third one, but intially reading it simply made you black out and wake up several hours later with a feeling of profound understanding of the world, a feeling that soon fed into ego.

 

I go into one of the shops that sell spells

 

"Fuck this."
I wake up.

 

I do, keeping an eye out for street urchins. If you want to know why Thorston is looking for street urchins so badly? It's a secret that involves some quite stupid plans on my part and an idea for Thorston's eventual long-term goals beyond "1: get rich. 2: ???".

 

Sorry for my extremely late response. Life happened. Quick short response.

I proceed to grab my bow first slinging it across my back. Afterward, I grab my arrow desummoning it and walk to the barman. Same question: "What in the world is this place?"

You're rather rudely bumped into by several passerby as you attempt to worm your way to the shop through quite a few crowds, but you reach a store with the words "THE NEAREST BOOKSTORE" emblazoned on its front window.
It's quite bigger than the one in the Riverthrone, and has multiple tables where students and scholars have made literal book forts.
There's quite a hefty selection of reading material, from history to magic theory to spellbooks. There's a fireplace and some seating on the far end, with a giant portrait of some noble.

The day is peaceful, the bed is warm, and people are still going around and being normal.
Inn's strangely quiet, though. Explains why you got such good sleep.

It takes a long time, and quite a bit of asking, but you eventually narrow where that stuff is after a few hours. Your best bet is that there are some imports of what you need coming in by the shipyards, so that's where your scavenger hunt has taken you.
Right now, you find yourself in front of a large discount goods warehouse right on the banks, lots of raw bulk materials inside.

The street urchins seem to be sequestered especially in the north-western segment of town, and really the only well-off places seem to be the center of town and the riverfront itself. The eastern end is taken up by a bunch of magic institutions and areas, so there's not really anywhere else for the beggars and street urchins to go.

Barman: "There's a sign, ain't there? Bloody Goose. It's where ya go when yer not really plannin' somethin' lawful or if ya wanna drink underage. Wonderful part is I can just tell ya this, 'cause if ya talk someone'll just kill ya.

 

I go check the section that has spellbooks

 

I get dressed and I go to the bekery.

 

Surprisingly accurate, although my inspiration is quite different.

I go in and buy the materials I need, still watching for any street urchins. I also watch if any try to interact with me.

 

An attendant points you towards the spellbook section, giving you a wide array of different spells to use.
Spells of pretty much any and every element you know are on these couple shelves, and there's a lot of quite creative stuff too.

You trudge out of your room, heading downstairs. It's a small pain to go around all the bloodstains and corpses that the inn seems to have gained while you were asleep.
Tch. So-called 'Quality Inns'. At least it's quieter now.
You trudge further out and across the street to the bakery, opening the door and being hit with a fresh batch of baked goods.

The warehouse has a rather high roof, and shelves upon shelves of items stacked up to said roof. You eventually manage to talk your way into buying the materials you need rather cheaply, getting everything for only about 12 Gold Coins.

 

I look around mainly looking for a ward spell, damage dealing spells that aren't fire and intresting or out of ordinary spells (I would also like to know the prices of them)

 

With that done, I go and take the raw materials back to the blacksmith. Also, I examine the charm necklace from earlier.

 

Eradius inhales the smell of freshly baked bread.
"Ah! I would like to buy a loaf of bread. Also, do you sell any spells?"

There don't seem to be many damage spells in comparison to other shelves, but ok.

Crystal Lance (Quartz) - 10 GC
Summons a crystal spike, propelling it towards a target.
Quicksand - 15 GC
Turns a specified patch of ground into quicksand, reverting after a set amount of time.
Blade of Wind - 1 GC ('Please just get this thing off our hands', reads a note attached to its cover)
Summons a sword, size of the user's choice, into their hand. Other than being invisibly made of wind, it acts as a normal blade.
Pressure Wave - 20 GC
Send a wave of air pressure outwards from caster in a sphere.
Lightning Bolt - 20 GC
Discharges large amounts of electricity at unlucky target(s).
Electrical Execution - 24 GC
At close range to an opponent, stab them with an open lightning-infused hand.
Spiritual Agony [ATTEMPTING TO INCREASE SPELL DURATION CARRIES DEATH PENALTY IN 13 COUNTRIES. USE AT OWN RISK] - 100 GC
Momentarily exert negative pressure on a living soul, causing extreme pain.
Mental Supernova - 45 GC
Cause massive headaches to targets in specified area, incapacitating them and dealing damage.

As for strange and utility spells, there are so many of them that there's pretty much anything you can imagine. It's certainly much more than a normal human is capable of writing out in a reasonable
amount of time on say, a computer.

The charm necklace appears to be made of several ornate wood carvings all held on a string. Each of those has lettering inscribed on it in a language you don't know, and appear to be prayers of some sort.

It takes another hour to get back to the blacksmith and it's the mid-afternoon and wow are you hungry.

I get the regular ward spell, quicksand and blade of wind and try to haggle the price down by 5 gold

 

"That's not what I... nevermind."
I exit the bakery and go where the baker said.

 

Can I go get something to eat?

OOC Thorston: "I'm not sure what's so bad about Blade of Wind."
OOC Thorston: "Sure, it's not a good spell for full casters, but not carrying around a weapon and not leaving evidence of your kills seems pretty useful to me."
