Generic Fantasy - [5/7]

"I think for everyone's sake, we should take that stop. I'd prefer to not have more sea sick sailors."

 

I realize I don't have any torches and climb back up the grappling hook.

 

"Oh, that fucking idiot. I don't know where he is. Want a cookie?"

 

They bring you to a somewhat odd door. Strange runes, hastily carved in, dot its surface. That's not even bringing into account all the weird charms stuck in, and the unfamiliar purplish smoke coming out from the door frame.
There's a plate at the door, reading "Rykos' Lab. Do not interrupt if you want to live."

Almost on cue, Rolof vomits over the edge.

You're back on the street.

"... Seriously? First that strange woman, then a bunch of others, and none of you know where he is? And no to the cookie. My health is far too frail for confections."

 

I retrieve my grappling hook and look for:

• A place where I can buy torches.
• A place where I can buy a way to light torches (like a tinderbox or flint and steel).
• Street urchins.
• Any plot hooks you decide to give me.

 

I stand in front of the door thinking what to do, after a minute of thinking I carefully knock on the door

 

"Okay then."
I close the door and go dream up rest of my backstory.

 

• You distinctly remember passing some kind of 'tomb-raider's emporium' when you got here, mainly because of its garish displays of flame, explosions, and impractically large poles.
• ^
• That's pretty easy. The poorer edges of the city are clustered by the walls, where you are, so you could find maybe one or two a block. (as long as they don't find/rob you first)
• Waiting for you to get into the sewer. Either that or only faking saying that so I can spring something on you, but maybe I'm double faking it.
• A bullet traveling so far it made its way to another thread.

You hear what can only be described as sounds of rage made manifest on this world before a young-seeming voice comes out from behind the door.
Probably!Rykos: "I thought this was an academy! CAN ANY OF YOU ACTUALLY READ!?"

You hear the man softly laughing to himself in this smug-ass manner before he tells his guy to take him away.
How did he get to the second floor in a wheelchair?

Eh, whatever.

You go to sleep, and instantly wake back up in your bed.
Wait.
Nope. You feel way younger and the outside noise just dropped to silence and this is definitely a dream.

 

Dez:"I don't study here, I was sent here to have my magic items examined"

 

I go explore and get a lightning spell ready for when Serena shows up.

 

I head to the tomb raider's emporium, keeping an eye out for conveniently located street urchins.

Val'tash: "Did anyone else see a small metal ball fly past them?"

 

"Case in point. We should probably take him to someone, I don't think producing this much vomit is healthy."

 

Probably!Rykos: "... More student pranks? You exit the building and once again see the street, with the somewhat odd fact that you cannot hear anything except yourself. No wind, no people, no animals. Just you. The city feels empty.

You pass a few old men and one starved former-person on the way, but none of them seem particularly useful. Soon enough, you're standing in front of the shop, and it's even more ridiculus than you remember it was."

"There's no possible way he still has food left in his stomach. This is really getting ridiculous."

 

I very carefully open the door and go in

 

I survey the shop to see how robbable it is, trying not to look suspicious.

 

I go explore it.

 

The weird purplish haze covers the whole room, and doesn't seem to be affecting you that bad.
The room itself is not too large, maybe 10 by 8 feet, and is covered everywhere in texts about potions and magical objects, some in strange and exotic languages. Random junk litters the floor, and there's a desk and chair on the far end with some odd wooden rod and what looks to be a lot of tools on it.

You're greeted very coolly by what looks to be a young man in robes 2 sizes too large for him. He walks away from the door, goes back behind the desk and sits down.
Probably!Rykos: "So? What brilliant waste of time has someone here sent me now?"

After what's probably half a day but feels like ten, the boat finally pulls up to a set of docks with stairs leading to the top of the canyon you've found yourselves in. The sun's been shining overhead for the past hour, and the temperature in the boat has skyrocketed. A small, rickety sign reads: "Riverton Docks".

Not very. Everything's rather open and there are a ton of customers. Your saving grace is that the shop appears to have a high roof and lots of beams above the main shopping floor, but you haven't the faintest idea how to get there.

What direction? The street goes to the left and right, and there's quite a lot of city after that.

You spontaneously materialize sitting on the end of some dock in a river harbor. You have mountains facing you on the other side of said river, and what looks to be a large city behind you. Large riverboats chug up and down the river, although most of them are going upriver to your right.

 

Dez:"Well im Dezeltex and I want to know what this thing does" I take the pendant off and show it to him

 

I buy three torches and a way to light them.

 

I go left.
