I head over, looking inconspicuous, and try to see which house looks the most... pickpocketablerobbable.

 

Dez(to leon):"Sorry but I have to do this first I promised to someone"
I turn to where I left Owen, snap my fingers to dispell the illusion, and yell out
Dez:"Owen, I think found your father! Can you come here and confirm?"

 

Eradius: "Hello, I'm looking for employment. I'm a wizard thought in the arts of the arcane, capable of ending conflicts peacfuly as well as with use of force."

 

Hmm... most of it is either gibberish, way too many scientific/magic terms, or the greatest cipher the world has ever seen. There does appear to be some stuff written in actual language, however.
The most attention-catching item is a piece of paper haphazardly left on the edge of a table. Looks somewhat important.

The tower has undergone an evacuation order due to the suspicious populace. I assume that the lord's sending in a party with pitchforks and torches any day now...
Most of our members will rendezvous at select locations across the continent. My recent predecessor ordered a band of mercenaries in, and they're frankly more expendable. Only a select few of you and your fellow elemental mages along with I will remain in order to provide oversight. We'll be hiding directly under the Lord's noses in The Tavern. Your job is to guard the gate until we're done here. The last boss ​

Quite a few of the houses look inhabited, but there's this one creepy house on one side of the road that looks devoid of life. The entire place has cobwebs and lichen growing everywhere, however, along with lots of broken windows.

Owen: "Huh? Oh, ok."
He walks over and soon makes eye contact with Ulysses.
Owen: "Papa!"
He immediately hugs his father. All of his pent up sadness is instantly released.

A woman sits at a desk in front of you.
"Oh..? Ah, I see. There's been a misunderstanding. We have a mercenary staff on hand to do jobs. If you want to do one, we can either go through the long hiring process or you can simply ask around in town. Sorry!"

 

I clap.

 

Dez:"Well my job here is done" I turn to leon "you had lost something, I probably won't be much help, but it depends on what you need"

 

Leon: (to Dez, whispering) “I lost very, very important artifacts. A silver potion and a key. I need them back but they seem to have vanished, like they were stolen.”

 

Dez:"Oh...this isn't the best place to talk about that" I start heading to an ally away from the tavern

 

I follow and make sure no one else is following.

 

I sneak in to that house.

 

Eradius: "Oh... Well then, how long is the hiring process? Also how good is the pay and how often do people come here asking for a hire?"

 

Once were in the ally
Dez:"So you two where the ones that the cult stole from? I know exactly where these two items are"

 

Leon: "Indeed, we stole from the cult. We are trying to stop the cult's dastardly plan. We need those two artifacts or the cult will be able to succeed, and this region, perhaps the entire planet, would never be the same."

 

Dez:"seems like they are inportant to the cult but I can only get you one of the two so which will it be the potion or the key?"

 

Leon: "How about you keep one, and I keep the other. In case one of us is robbed and the other is not. I will take the key."

 

Dez:''Sounds fine by me''
i give Leon the key

 

I take the key and place it deep down within my bag.

Leon: "Thank you, friend. What are your intentions now that you have reunited a lost child with his father?"

 

Dez:''I heard theres a mercenary branch stationed here, probably look for some work. All though i would like to get to the bottom of this cult stuff''

 

Leon: "Have you any information on any of their possible hideouts or camps?"

 

Dez:"There is one right under the tavern that we were just at and a camp I escaped from up north but there is nothing really of worth left there"
