After delivering a bunch of cold glares in your direction, they stop payong attention to you and start badmouthing a king or some sort.

Its about a minute later that a large man in heavily damaged plate and a man in a cloak enter the building. Both of them are heavily battered and bruised. The tavern goes silent for a monent before the female bartender quickly escorts both of them into a back room.
The silence instantly breaks.

 

Lazarus (Thinking): Some people stationed north of here... Could be suspicious. I shouldn't go in there alone, though.

 

Thorston mumbles to himself. "Hmm..."

I examine the book about Eood Valley and the Locked Pendant.

 

The locked pendant is a necklace that appears to be made of brass or a similarly-colored material. There's a large keyhole on the front that looks into inky blackness. No matter how hard you try, it won't budge open.

20-Something girl in a blue cloak reading a book- Mage, perhaps? Could be useful.
The Bard- No
Gruff man with thick beard and axe- Heavy-hitting, likely resilient
Priest in a White Cloak- A priest could be useful, since, generically in fantasy universes, priests heal
Warrior in Blue Armor, sitting near the edge in a shady manner- I don't like the "shady" bit.
Sneaky-Looking guy (Probably a career thief)- Could be hireable, espionage as well.
Old looking guard with spear- Possibly willing to help or intel grab
Middle-Aged guard with a sword- Same as above
Young guard with a spear- Same
Female guard with a sword- Same
Middle-aged guard with a bow- Same
Outdoorsy guy with strange bow- Could be good to have an archer
A Green-Skinned Ninja- Infiltration

A girl in a long brown coat and goggles- If this is generic, she's steampunk or something, but I doubt she's be much use in infiltration/attack
A buff looking guy with a sword at his waist- Could be good to have, but outclassed by other people
Someone in a gray cloak obsessively looking at an engraved box of some sort- No

Biggest problem is, who would I be able to persuade? Let me think for a bit...

 

If you want party members, try looking up instead.

 

The pendant would be large for a human. It covers half of your chest. The book is a pocket guide, which means it's generally the perfect size for you.


Note: I am about to leave for a full day of "Family Bonding". This will be my final post for the next 12 hours.

 

I take the book and peek through the door at the side wall.

Le Plan regarding NPCs:
-Talk to the guards about it. I'll leave in that all I know is that the hooded guys have something up north.
-If that fails, I'll first see if the 20-something female is a mage and, if so, I'll attempt to recruit.
-After trying to recruit the mage, I will talk with the outdoorsy guy.
-I'll also see if the ninja wants to come
-Maybe the guy in black armor

You edge open the door - Just a few inches. It leads into a hallway with 2 rooms branching off it to the left and right. A flight of stairs to the ground floor lies at the end of the hall.
You hear someone in the room on the left shuffling around in a bed. You can still hear people downstairs, but they appear to have stopped talking.
