"Demiplane of... *hack*... a friend of a friend who can teleport more precisely than.... than me. Was going to... going to check what was happening on that mountain.."

He notices you as you walk over to him, snapping out of his slouch and into a salesman posture.
"Spellbooks, cheap! Are you interested?"

"... wha... I'm thirty, okay?"

Sadly, as an 8-year old, nearly all of the comparitively simple concepts completely fly over your head. Something about compression?

 

"Who are they?"
Gesture with the hand not holding the pendant at the other figures.

 

"What spells have you got? I'm mainly looking to identify things, but interesting spells are also on my radar"

 

"Prove it that you are thrirty!"

 

I decide to follow the fleeing grown-ups, as I want to ask a few questions. What could go wrong!

 

It's one of them that responds.
"Umm... Servants, I guess? The boss got his boss to create us, and help him with his business."

"Oh... I've mainly just got utility stuff, you know, super-minor telekenises for cleaning and whatnot. You know, sorting spells, that kind of thing. I do have an identify one, though."

"How‽"

You follow them outside the big building, and find an even bigger street. Everyone here looks even more scared!

 

"When you cut a tree you can read how old it is be the number of rings inside of it."

 

"... Who's the boss and who's his boss?"

 

"Alright how much for the identify book?"

 

The guy in a heavy metal suit looks like he's in charge. Maybe if I ask him what happened, he'll answer!

 

His voice goes from bewildered to one lecturing a child, with plenty of gestures.
"I am not a tree, okay?"

"The floor boss of this part of the demiplane and the demiplane's owner, Arhal. Did Z really port you here without telling you anything? Oh, yeah, why are you even here?"

"I mean, not much. It's around, what, 10 gold?"

"By Eliar's ignorance, there were children in here. Don't worry, kid, you'll be fine. It'll be okay."
He's not answering, and he calls over another guard to pick you up.

 

Where am I in this right now again?

 

Fix my stance to be less ready for combat, and more casual for talking.

I step back into the shadows for a bit and watch what she does.

 

Eliar sounds like a mean person, but the guard seems tired. I guess I'll wait quietly for my escort and ask him instead.

 

I give him 10 gold for the book "By any chance do you also know where to find someone with a cart?"

 

"Yeah you're not, that's why we can't use that method. I will insead cast Check Age on you. Did you actually thought I was going to cut you open? What, are you retarded?"

I cast Check Age on him.

 

Zeth: "Arhal still... still has that teleporting gizmo, right?"
Servant: "Wait, what? You need a teleporting... but you just teleported here!"
Zeth: "More.... precise.."

A man in a hood pokes his head out of the door, missing you in his sweep of the area.
Woman: "So... about that job offer I'm pretending to trust you about...."
Hoodie: "Just... come in. I'll fill you in away from prying eyes. Even now, unlikely as it is, enemies could be watching."
With that, both enter the opening, which rather slowly starts closing behind them.

The escort grabs you in a side-arm carry.
"Don't worry, you'll be saf.. what happened? Well, sometimes the earth shakes very, very badly. So badly, even that it can hurt buildings! We're making sure everyone's okay :)"

"Hrm.... merchants, probably? There's a trading post right outside the north gate, that's probably what you're looking for."

"Retarded? Says the senile old man who leads with calling himself 'evil' and thinks he could hurt a fucking fly."
A voice, presumably that of the spell, booms an answer in your head: THIRTY YEARS, ONE-HUNDERED THIRTY-SEVEN DAYS, FIFTEEN HOURS, 35 MINUTES.

"This might be random, but what is the year? And where were we?"
