Fruma Speculation Time!

Half-baked theory:
Maybe we'll have to invade Fruma and steal the spell document or item that brainwashes/erases people's memories and use it to fight the Dernic beast by wiping our memories every split second so that we don't go mad in the presence of the Beast.

 

I agree with this, I believe something had happened to the government (most likely a supernatural/magial influence) that forced the aristocracy to act in such a way that incited rebellion against them (obviously coming about as a by-product as opposed to the goal).
It could very well be that someone like the Queen of Fruma endured a traumatic event that was induced by magic that caused a stark change in character. OR she became aware of problems such as the Decay/Corruption/Darkness from Dern and as such devotes so much time to protecting herself and her country from them at the expense of her own people's wellbeing.
