Yes, you really deserve Featured Wynncraftian because shitposting is definitely contributing to the community!!

I bet I sound really biased here but I'm serious what does shitposting contribute to wynn

 

makes the community alive and makes us stand together against the shitposters.

 

The issue rises when people start using "deserving" without agreeing on it's meaning. What actually makes someone deserving?
I hate to do this, but I'll use JJ as a scapegoat to describe what I mean. Why was he never a FW? He didn't deserve it? He deserved it more than anyone else at his prime, yet he was never chosen, or nominated. If there is a reason for that, it needs to be known so we can get a grasp at what "deserving" actually means. That's the issue, that some people did a huge contribution to the forum, yet they never got any "official" recognition, while others did relatively a lot less and got the praise. People who did a lot feel unappreciated. IMO, drop the word "deserving", and pick people that did "something" for the community in a positive way, regardless of it's size.

 

The problem with the current Featured Wynncraft picks here is not that they didn't do "something", but what they mainly got honored for is something a huge team has been working on, and they weren't necessarily the only one deserving to be honored for their work & achievments.
I am fine when Moderators pick people who weren't nominated, and I am glad they actually started it again, but less people would disagree if someone was chosen who wasn't part of a large team of equally participating people

 

Alright, so we just got 4 brand new FW's. will the promotions for FW become more frequent now? and will admins actually start looking at the FW nominations?
also, I want someone to specify if it IS okay for someone to nominate themselves for FW. Thanks

Now that's a hard one.
I see both points of view here, and it's hard to say "who was right" in this situation. While wynncon was a mutual effort, it is impossible to interview every single person who contributed to it, so they rather interviewed people who came up with the idea. I understand why you see it as unfair, so my suggestion is "leave it be". Might seem dumb, or unfair, but just take my word for it. I did drama in FW before, and the result in the end is simply not worth it considering FW changes every week. People who "deserve" FW will get it, eventually. Just, leave it be, FW isn't that big of a deal.

 

As someone who has not been in the community long... why are you arguing over who is featured? From what I can see it is just a thing done for fun, arguing that x or y should have been FW instead is just asking for trouble and makes you look egotistical. There is no reason to complain about something that is purely based on opinions. Seriously guys, be a bit more mature about this. It isn't like not being picked (or your friend not being picked) is the end of the world. Maybe they'll be picked in the future, but arguing about it probably just decreases your chances of ever being selected.

This is very literally a popularity contest, with no prize for the winner. Stop complaining about it and go on with your lives if you don't like it. For the rest of us, this is a fun little thing where we can spotlight people in the community. fun little thing being the keywords.

With respect to the Wynncon stuff, if you want to honor a larger group then someone has to stand in front and be the face of it. For this, it makes the most sense to have the founders. No one denies other people put in work, but interviewing literally everyone would be a waste of time and resources.

 

Errr, I could've sworn he was an FW at one point. And if he wasn't, it was probably because he already did an AMA so at that point it'd be a bit redundant to do an FW for him since any questions the mod team would ask him would've already been done on the AMA.

That said, I can understand the confusion about the use of the word "deserve" It actually usually does depend on someone doing something positive for the community. "Deserve" is being used here to mean "qualified", in a way. While being a somewhat known member who has does positive things for the community generally makes someone a canditate for FW, there are many factors that would deny someone a position. For example, if a user who is very helpful and has done something positive also has a history of being rude and starting flame wars, it might not be best to give that person Featured Wynncraftian as it could cause controversy, or they might start bragging about their rank and being totally obnoxious. Similar situations have happened before, and we don't really want them to happen again.

That all makes the FW process very complicated, as we have to be very careful about who we choose. We're doing things a bit differently this time and we're trying to avoid the mistakes of the past. But let's all remember that, no matter who you think should get this rank, this whole thing is just about engaging with members of the community. If you have earned the rank, you'll get your turn eventually, but we can't do everyone at once. It's not a big deal anyways, you just get a little interview and a cosmetic rank for a week or two. So there's no point in arguing over who got the rank and who didn't anyways, it's not like FWs actually get any position of power anyways.

 

To finally get this done, I'd like to apologize for the drama caused by my reply and the following, partially escalating, discussion. While I don't want to abandon arguments brought up I understand that this is a topic of minor importance, and is not worth arguing about. I really hope all sides can leave this be, and return to what the thread was originally intended, the celebration of the chosen FWs

Eh. Bank had his reasons to be harsh I believe. Some mods like to finish things with an iron fist. Can't blame them because it definitely works.

If AbandonedBank apologized, then that would give AscendedKitten closure. She already apologized, so now it's Bank's turn to apologize.

 

I think we could clean up this mess if Bank just apologised, and we could pretend none of it happened. So, @Abandonedbank?

 

I will not have any part in this argument, but I do feel pretty bad that @Ascended Kitten , @Nepeta Leijon , @Yamipanda, and @yosteric5 didn't get any reward, as they worked just as hard if not harder than us (from what I've seen), to make this idea a reality. If there is anything I can do to make it up to you guys, feel free to tell me.

Bank will apologize if he feels like what he had done was truly wrong. No one wants a half-assed "sorry". Apologies may be the best, but no one should force or pressure anyone into apologizing by tagging. Just my opinion.
