He doesn’t smell anything similar. You can try to knock down the door tho. Athletics check. {don’t you have thieves tools? You can try to pick the lock, but try knocking down the door first}

Also, if it failed, that would mean this shoddy abjuration spell is 7th level or higher. Wat.

 

My guess is Arcane Lock (2nd level), and we know he can cast Fabricate (4th level), but...

Something random I thought about: At least in 5E, Necromancy is different from other schools in that it covers spells mainly based on flavor as opposed to effect. For example, Conjuration teleports and summons things, and Enchantment effects the minds of creatures, but Necromancy... deals Necrotic damage (damage is normally the purview of Evocation), inflicts debuffs, animates the dead, etc.

 

The doorknob refuses to turn. (What, you didn’t think he would use a normal lock on top of the magic ward?)

Also, I actually had to check that. I THOUGHT the spell was level 8 for some weird reason, but it appears not

Also, Necromancy “meddles with the forces of life, death, and undeath”. For example, False Life is a Necromancy spell, but that just gives you extra HP. I think one or two of the reviving a dead person spells is also Necromancy (while the others are Evocation I think? Maybe Transmutation?”

That description fits flavor more than mechanics. For example, despite both bringing back dead people, Raise Dead is Necromancy, but Reincarnate is Transmutation, and despite both dealing magic damage at range, Fire Bolt is Evocation, but Toll the Dead is Necromancy.

I feel like they are all a mix.
