Erevan: "Wards that don't cover Ethereal travel seem a little half-assed, to be frank, considering that many of the most powerful of the creatures the ward covers can do it. It's all so strange... if the city was designed as a trap, it's not a very good one. I'm not convinced that that's its true purpose.

I'm pretty sure racial alignments are not set in stone, and can be modified by the DM.
