The statement on most creatures is "B/P/S from nonmagical attacks"

So actually they still take full damage from things like fall damage, Ice Knife, or Spike Growth.

I take out my stick, and run near Erevan.
"Hey asshat, come get some!"
I then lightly toss the stick into the Fire Elemental, and take the Dodge action.
...That's it, really.

My rule of thumb is usually whoever got damaged changes the hp. Not always, but if you aren’t sure that’s a good assumption
