Remember how I asked about anyone being able to dispel Arcane Lock?

Well, this is basically as strong as the Seneca ward. But I’ll treat it as Arcane Lock so you don’t need to go to another town to get the key to the ward.

The blue light fades

 

My spell actually rolled high enough to dispel a 9th level spell. I think we'd have been fine.

"Now, try the door again."

 

Heat raises the mace, looks at Caligo and focuses on the wall, waiting.

 

“Heat leads.”

 

Nevermind, I try to push the door open.

 

The door swings open, and a chill wind comes out from within. The inside is dark.

 

I raise my hand and cast Light on my gauntlet to provide illumination.

The room ahead is mostly water. It’s a relatively small room with a narrow winding path made of grass rising up from above the water. At the end of the path is a giant tree, with evenly spaced branches that rises up through the stone ceiling.

The water in the room is clear, with some fish and coral in it. That, combined with the short grass and stone walls, gives a smell of a cliff side beach.

 

“Weird place...”

 

"Interesting. How will we ascend from here, I wonder?"

I wait for the party to follow me.

 

I follow, but not too close, taking advantage of the dim light granted by Light.

 

I’m tracking who’s entered. Once half the people have entered, I’m just going to assume everyone has entered

 

Heat points to the tree.
"That tree is large enough and the limbs are spread out far enough as to make climbing an option."

I'll also go inside.

"Hey, there's fish in here."

Oh this is the best part.

As you all enter the tower, you feel something in your minds. A presence... something reading your most basic hopes and fears. Something sinister. Suddenly it goes away... and just as you think it’s gone, you hear a voice ring in your head! The voice is your own, ringing out in a mocking tone.

Yevor: “It’s your fault Aelux is dead! You could not help him! And now, Evile is back. So really, did you do anything good? All you caused is the death of a friend! And now, history shall repeat. Evile shall triumph again, and you shall sit on the sidelines as you let all your friends perish! And once again, only you shall be left, left to see the hideous work of your inner darkness!”

Kyelas: “Do you think you can stop this plague? Do you think you can HELP anyone? You can’t. You, angel of light, protector of the weak. Hah! You are a disgrace to aasimar. The gods did not even see you worthy enough to send you an angelic guide. You bind a wolf to your service because that’s what you are. A guideless, worthless, lightless ANIMAL.”

Both you and him will fade from history, both having accomplished nothing. You shall never avenge his death. You shall fail, and follow in his ill-fated footsteps”

Erevan: “You call yourself a cleric of light? You think you fight this undead plague? All you do is sow more destruction everywhere you go! Everywhere you go, death follows. All the deaths that happened during the war, all those slayed enemies, and all those fallen allies, even your Modron friend… You were too weak to protect them, and now you can’t protect those dear to you either!”

You are part of a group that would let you die at a moments notice for being incompetent. You are not great. You destroy everything you touch. You are a FAILURE.”

Caligo: “Hah! You, a servant of a god of death. Oh, how you kill to fill your divine purpose. You do rituals to please your god and the dead, burning or burying or eating the dead. But, do your friends know it’s all a lie? You don’t kill for your god. You kill because you are a coward. You have solved all your problems through murder, but you claim not to like doing it. You have not tried any other way. Because you don’t want to. Because you are scared of what you have become, and you are scared of what happens if you stop. You are scared that if you don’t just kill your way through life, you will become something even worse. You don’t kill for some holy entity, you kill because you are afraid of stopping.”

At this, Kintee clinches his head and starts yelling
