DMs can make things so crits backfire if they're clever.

 

This was Okami's crit, not Caligo's.

 

I would rule that since what Okami was trying to do was knock him unconscious, a crit would make them succeed at that, without causing further harm.

 

Okami’s bite leaves the Professor with a minor scar on his arm. The scar creates no effect, and can be healed with a healing spell of 6th level of higher

 

But is that a good idea?

Same. And I might have made a Natural 1 kill the professor instead of knocking him unconscious, despite my hatred of critical failures.

 

I already said he’s KOed. I just said I WANTED to make it kill, to piss y’all off

 

I think that's the least dangerous permanent injury result, so... I'm actually fine with that, although

 

Now that the fight ended, there is 4 peoples inconscious. x)

And 2 of them need to be tied.

Then Caligo: 2 + 1 WIS + 3 Prof = 5. You can thank my trash can for stopping the die on 2.
