    Flying little enemies that are basically my only way of stopping you from camping in the narrow parts and using ranged attacks on the hound

    The hound uses it's one actual ranged attack.

    It does a disgusting snarl, and you feel a word vile echo through your minds... DOOM.

    @Florfy5 Kyelas, Okami, @AlexisPlay Alas, @Enhanced_Human Caligo, @Paradoxical Erevan, and @Nem Heat make a WIS save.

    @Death Knight Yevor is on the edge of the ability's range, like the line literally cuts right through his token, so I'll give him advantage.

    Dang why did @Death Knight make the DC on this so high? I would have made it lower, but eh, it's fine. It's not SUPER high, and the effect isn't that bad.

    You take 7 psychic damage, and are frightened. At the end of each of your turns, you may choose to take the save again, ending the effect on a success. This may cause further damage.

    Note: While frightened you have disadvantage of ability checks and attack rolls while you can see the hound, and can't willingly move closer to it.

    Goddamnit @Death Knight , you do realize save DCs are supposed to be calculated, not arbitrarily assigned, right?

    Anyway, the good news is:

    Roll 17 + 5 wis + 3 prof = 25

    I'm pretty sure there's some sort of formula for this save DC. I forgot what it was, though. Besides, tons of official monsters have semi-arbitrary DCs. Dragon breath, (flipped to a random MM page) The Chasme's drone ability, (another random page) realizing the true nature of a Kenku's mimicry...

    The formulas are a little difficult, because monsters don't have an official proficiency bonus stat, but by looking at their attacks, you can subtract their strength or dex as appropriate from their to-hit mod to find their "proficiency bonus", which is generally (but not always) used along with their highest mental ability score to set the DC for spells and spell-like abilities.

    Their "proficiency bonus" is generally something close to what players of around the same level would have, though it gets quite high at higher CRs.

    There's a formula for monster proficiency bonus. This hound is technically CR 2 (before Paragonizing it), so...

    Alfred takes 8 psychic damage. He ded. He would also be frightened, but he's dead anyway.

    Alas takes 4 psychic damage and is frightened.

    By the way, I thought AoEs were supposed to use the same damage for all targets...
