And? Mistakes were made and being bitter about memes is just sad. All this is doing is spreading hate and toxicity. They are not cancelling the update, they made the call that something else would be better. You don't even know what it is they plan on releasing.

Alright, while I agree that it is partially Grian’s fault, the community shouldn’t show so much hate anyways, it’s his fault that we only know about it so late but it isn’t his fault the CT had to stop work on RtD. You shouldn’t show hate and anger towards him, he is very busy and at this point Wynn makes up a smaller portion of his life than what it once was, since he has YouTube and his cats now, so he has less time to invest in Wynn, maybe that’s why he’s not as good a developer.

Some of you are a bit misunderstanding how we work. It's normal though, from the player's point of view every update comes out packaged nicely in a theme one after the other. From our point of view, we are working on tons of stuff all over the place all the time. Things are cancelled all the time, but you guys never know about it. There are some work being done right now that will be for the update after this one, way far back and you guys won't see it for a while. We don't always know ourselves what an update will contain until we get close to it. We have some goals for them of course, but only know parts of what will make it. This update, we had planned a bunch of things with the main theme being Road to Dern, but we also had a big surprise we wanted to do. As time passed, we shifted the main theme to that other thing, and took a break from RtD as progress wasn't as great as expected. It doesn't mean we worked less, only that priorities shifted over time. People started having good ideas and feeling motivated for that other thing, and it hurt RtD in the process. It happens all the time, difference is that usually players don't know about it.

Working on a game (even if it's a MC server) is a creative process, done by creative people. If things aren't working out, forcing it will just give you bad results. It's better to put it on the side, finish the other project that was in the work and go back to it when you feel you have more fresh/better ideas. This is one of the reasons we tend to stay silent about updates. If we say things too early (like Grian did) it could end up changing and making people disappointed.

The reason this update is taking more than usual isn't because of that shift away from RtD, but because the thing we want to do instead is a big deal and requires a lot of work, even if it got started around the same time. It's something we wanted to do since day 1 of Wynncraft, so you could argue it's been roughly in the work for 5+ years. Some plans for it even date from the very early days.

More related to the OP though, CT should really never receive hate for work and time they freely volunteer. Focus your anger on admins if you need to, we're the ones who made the decision to put RtD on the side in the end. But of course, feedback is way more appreciated than flat out hate and always great to give to anyone. Just remember the human. CT's ultimate goal is to create things that players will enjoy, nobody goes in secret meetings plotting about how to fuck with player's expectations the best.

Speaking of the update, would it be possible to give us a new estimated time for when the update is finished?

I don't think that staying silent on updates is ever the right thing to do. I think that it would be better to make vague teasers of the update (something like what American Horror Story does) so that the community has something to be hyped about while still not quite promising anything Apart from that, your reply really clears things up. Thanks for putting in the time to write it.

I know from personal experience that when creating a world and a story as complex and involved and interactive as Wynn, no reasonable measure of planning can predict and account for all the difficulties, shifting priorities, unseen dependencies, and other factors that come up over the development cycle. If ever a plan of such scale went perfectly with no alterations or failures, I've yet to hear of it. I think a broader perspective of the situation should be considered, because RtD has not been outright cancelled and made obsolete. As I understand it, all that has happened is a re-ordering of the next 2-3 updates, this being due to unforeseeable (and therefore, un-plannable) complications and considerations that couldn't have been accounted for 8 months ago when the plans were laid out. Sometimes it takes a while - months, even - for these factors to become noticeable and important enough to shift the course of a project.

Grian and the rest of the CT find themselves between a rock and a hard place when deciding whether or not to tell us what they've been working on. If they show us things and plans end up changing so teasers x, y, and z don't get implemented, the community gets angry onover the CT not fulfilling a perceived promise immediately - example: all the unfinished dungeons in Gavel, Rodoroc storyline, the mythical Main Storyline, etc.. If, however, the CT doesn't show teasers and instead keeps us in the dark, the community gets angry for not being told anything, and thus calls the CT lazy (although honestly people do that anyways). In both cases, the CT are ridiculed for doing the best they can, which can be infuriating. Neither way pleases a significant majority, so everyone is left disappointed. So yes, @Dr Zed, communication isn't quite what it could be, but that's because the admins are getting so much mixed feedback from different parts of the community towards every approach they've taken so far that it's hard to decide what the best amount and the best way of communicating is.

Every time the admins have bad news like this, it doesn't go over well at all. However, in my opinion, these kinds of delays should be EXPECTED. The scale and depth of the world of Wynn presents so many challenges to the developers that are hard to explain, and majority of the community isn't likely aware of. I believe the discontent of many players stems from unreasonably high expectations. Developing games IS HARD. Changes have to be made, features have to be re-worked or removed, and this all takes time. A lot of time.

Either way, the community finds itself discontent with a team of volunteer workers who put in unknowable amounts of effort into bringing our entitled rears a world of adventure unparalleled by any other server out there - a fact this community is proud of. Why then do we ridicule the CT for delaying updates to ensure that their newest content matches and surpasses their ever-raising bar of quality standards? When the next update comes out - whenever it is, and whatever it is - I have the utmost faith that it will have been worth the wait. I anxiously await it.

I would rather everyone blame me personally than ever see the CT take a hit. I know the situation of why RTD had to be delayed - the circumstances make a lot of sense that don't necessarily have to do with me. I am able to sit here and take the hate because I know in myself that whats being said isnt true. Im not sure it's appropriate to share the finer details as it's private.

Bottom line is I shouldn't have said what we were working on as I know from experience the scope of each update expands and evolves. I had no reason at the start of this development cycle to expect anything other than what I was saying. So I apologise for announcing RTD was in the next update.

I do however need to clear things up; RTD was one part of the update, not long after we started the scope got bigger including other jobs etc. As time went on the interest in RTD was low from a development point of view. This lead us to work on the other parts of the update. As we got deep into the development cycle we realised the scope was too big for the size of the CT at the time, so we had to decide to cut something. RTD was the obvious choice from our side. Hence, I announced it would be delayed to the next cycle. It wasn't just dropped at a whim and we decided to do something else, that's ridiculous. Hopefully that clears things up on the matter.

I'm not trying to victimise here, if I didn't make the first announcement about RTD, I wouldn't have had to make the second about the delay. In hindsight it was a bad idea.

Hopefully this clears things up a little bit more. You have the right to be angry, but think about this. If we had forced out RTD with this update (which would have been possible) it would have delayed the update even longer and the content would be rushed and sub par - leading to everyone being super disappointed in it. It was a mature decision to delay it to ensure quality control for this update and future ones.

I'm honestly not sure anything productive can come from discussing this topic any further.
