Do Elemental Defense Matter?

If i have -500 thunder defense. Does that mean the mob hitting me get +500 thunder damage? And does it apply to their melee and spell the same?
Would a mob with thunder damage absolutely destroy me?

i don’t know how they work but:
-yes, they matter
-yes, you would get absolutely destroyed by a similar level monster if it has thunder damage and you have -500 thunder def

 

You would probably take 5x thunder damage, effectively annihilating you. So yes, they matter.

if you have -500 thunder defense, i believe thunder attacks will do a flat 500 more damage, similarly to how a +500 thunder defense would negate 500 damage from thunder.

since it's not a multiplicative effect, in small quantities, they are pretty useless.

pretty sure that uses old achilles (not possible anymore) or crafted cursed

with thunder, yes probably because a lot of thunder enemies moves fast, attacks fast, and spits acid. spammable advent.

basically, the faster the attack speed/more attacks from your enemies, then the more ele defs matter.

 

Actually i just realised that The Eye’s “arrow storm” is thunder damage so fuck me and fuck trying to solo The Eye.
