Hi, in case you didn't know, 1.20 added a few cool gathering spots around the world, specifically for fishing.
    upload_2021-2-9_16-37-30.png
(Pictured: Dive Spot on Coastal Trail)

The unique thing about these areas is that they have largely increased node quantity (around 30-40 nodes), but they are deep enough underwater that you have to swim to get them. This pretty much makes the respiration effect on breathing helmets a must to use them, and even so, you pretty much need to be able to instantly gather to use them with any efficiency.

Since instant gathering general requires higher profession levels or gathering speed IDs, these spots are not meant for leveling profs-- they are, at least from what I assume, intended to be used to collect materials for housing.

(Pictured: Dive Spot at Half Moon Island)

I've heard a few rumors about these spots getting removed, and personally, I really dislike that. As of now, I feel like dive spots really add a lot to these neat little areas, considering how empty water spaces used to feel. With the addition of these dive spots, they feel a lot more like a real part of the game instead of just filler territory between points A and B.

The dive spots just feel like a really fitting addition to the game-- take the above example, at Half Moon Island. The dive spot is located in a shipwreck, which, at least to me, seems really right, similar to how real-life shipwrecks serve as a type of artificial reefs for schools of fish.

    upload_2021-2-9_17-2-38.png
(Pictured: Dive Spot at Icy Island)

In my opinion, dive spots really support casual exploration. Secret discoveries, or quests involving finding things around the map like ???, can be really fun and cool, but they also, to some players, feel more required, as there is a tangible proof of completion, which many players strive to max out. In contrast, these dive spots feel a lot more like finding something hidden, instead of something that was made to be found.

Personally, I really enjoy seeing things like that, as it makes the world feel a lot more full and interesting, as these out-of-the-way places have these cool spots that can be found and enjoyed.

    upload_2021-2-9_17-29-0.png
(Pictured: Dive Spot at Troms Lake)

I've heard rumors about these being removed soon, but I really can't see why. Their existence isn't harming anyone or negatively impacting their experience, and they serve to provide life to previously desolate areas.

    Final thoughts:
-It really isn't too dim underwater, the murky effect added to my enjoyment overall, the areas were well-lit to be seen from the surface, and 1.13 adds better water vision if that's your style
-Very relaxed and laid back, and actually feels rewarding, unlike late game professions
-Water movement wasn't terrible annoying, since the nodes are so close together
-Gives you reason to look around water, which was previously barren
-1.20 Housing added a new market for low-level ingredients, and spots like this allow quick farming of them
-Totally optional, even though professions aren't necessarily optional content, as these are really bad for leveling professions

That's all I have, what does everyone else think?

Making more usages for stuff like climbing helmet and diving helmet is something I'd really like to see in Wynn tbh

Id also like the climbing helmet to be a merchant item like diving helmet.

Saw this being talked about on Atlas Inc discord, and I see why some people might want to remove them.
Having so many nodes, these will undoubtably become the most efficient way to gather lots of fish. However, moving through the water without depth strider is a pain in the neck, ass, and nether regions. This might force players trying to level as fast as possible/get materials to move slow as molasses while they gather fish, something infuriating in of itself. As long as depth strider/diving boots gets added I'm on board, but seeing as it's been suggested countless times I think it's unlikely.

    yes, to a point

however, i feel like these are greatly inefficient without the ability to instant harvest, thus, they are locked to low levels or large scrap investments for gspeed.

since the only use for large amounts of low level mats is housing, which is a one-way exchange, i don't see too much of an issue

also, i believe that someone said that depth strider was possible to be added, but there wasn't really any reason for it to exist. i'd imagine that these would make it more worthwhile.

My original thread about them, which also included info about the candy shop in the airbase, is here. When I was first making them, Salted was against it, but seemed to me like he changed his mind after I explained it- Turns out he hadn't done and I misinterpreted what he said.

When I asked, he said this:

"of course they[like the diving spots] theres 100 nodes in one spot
its too annoying of a way to gather them thats why
im not against good spots with a catch
but gathering is more passive than the rest and having to dive down to gather in almost darkness aint it"

For now they're removed, but I will re-add them if he changes his mind about them. I added them to help out professions people in a way that would also help fill out the flavor of the world a bit more. I only hope drawing attention like this will help to change his mind about it. I also hope that it won't affect his opinion on other potential bulk-profession areas...

I also thought the diving spots were really cool, and tbh I don’t see a reason for why they were removed. When insta-mining materials for housing it’s really annoying to have to wait a good 30-45sec for the nodes to respawn at the normal fishing spots. Even playing in 1.12.2 without the 1.13 underwater features the underwater spots were much more enjoyable than the normal spots.

The normal spots for gathering are more than sufficient to me for leveling, and these new spots are much more useful for gathering materials for housing. I suppose they were a bit annoying at times, but that’s more of a reason to add depth strider boots and a breathing helmet III than a reason to remove the spots.

These diving spots are a great addition and add some more depth to "find spot with greatest amount of nodes". I definitely wouldn't mind if other challenging spots were implemented to support the other professions as well.

diving spots were a minor but really neat addition and i hope they return. my only gripe is that the piranha dive spot was too close to the main grind spot, which is in troms lake. if they were return i would like that one to be removed so newer players arent going to get confused and think its the "intended" spot to grind. (thought even then its not a huge issue when the fish at the surface of the lake are 100x easier to grind)
