Website & Forums Discord Suggestions

well I'd like to start off saying there isn't a discord flair I could choose to make my thread so I just chose Website & Forums instead, but it'd be cool to add it, now onto the discord suggestions:

1) #general should be renamed to #off-topic (or #nemracts_bar) and moved under #planning_parlour, which is where all the non wynncraft related text channels are. The reason for this is to avoid confusion for new players as it's a very common occurrence to see people talking about wynncraft or asking questions in #general simply because it's the first text channel they see when they get in the server and they assume it's related to wynncraft.

2) Delete or lock #spoiler_chat, open it only when a very hyped movie has been released. This should be done because the text channel is extremely unmoderated and off topic 101% of the time, making it a target for spam etc etc you know, here are some examples: 1 - 2 - 3.

3) Regarding the verified role that was obtainable when the server was being targeted by spam bots, I think it'd be more useful if you could get the role when you link your minecraft account to your discord account, it's just a better way of avoiding the bots if this happens again.

4) Currently, there only way of getting your rank in the discord is to link your account to the forums, but there is also another type of link (#discord_link) that doesn't give you your in game rank for some reason, I don't know why it is like that but it just sounds dumb that they have to link their account twice and this leads to confusion as we have to tell new players to go and read #rules_and_information to find out how to get their rank. Example

5) Update #rules_and_information:
"If you need any help what so ever feel free to contact a moderator by tagging us @Moderator or by sending one of us a PM."
This doesn't mention the @Help tag, it's only mentioned in the description of #questions which I'm pretty sure no one reads.

6) Rule 8 in the discord is very vague, let's be honest, a huge percentage of the messages sent in #general are useless and random, but no one is being reported or punished for that and it would be even more stupid if people were being reported or punished, so what really is the point of having that rule? My suggestion is to either change it so it becomes more specific and we can actually know what is punishable or just remove the rule.

1) Discord is not forums. #general is the default chat and everybody knows that, and also it is written in the channels description that its off topic. If new players cant read its their problem.
2) The channel is used for memeing, and talking about anything. They dont/shouldnt care that much to eagerly watch for new movies to unlock it. Wynncraft is not an strict place, and is not about moderating the shit out of everything.

Everything else has a point, but i dont agree with those first two suggestions.

 

I feel like moving #general so low would have a severe impact on its user count with the current channel arrangement. Below #wynncraft or #questions would likely be a better spot when it comes to eliminating unintentional channel abuse without a backlash.

Or, better yet, you could just categorize channels based on their utility (e.g. informative, ingame, offtopic), which could solve both problems at once.

Keep in mind, that the verified role's purpose was to hide discord's user list by restricting newcomers' access to all channels. Clicking a button was simple and quick, but not bot proof. Having to launch minecraft, join the server, run a command in minecraft and the discord itself, all with a decently high chance of not working at all, would certainly keep bots away. On the other hand, having to go through all this effort just to use one platform would feel really disencouraging, especially towards new people.

Plus, this system'd come with some large restrictions as well; Everyone who either...

1. Don't have a minecraft account yet for whatever reason
2. Are too lazy to go through the aforementioned process
3. Want to join the discord on mobile
4. Have a username that conflicts with discord's formatting / whatever else's completely preventing them from linking accounts
5. Are either banned or temporarily banned from the server (all while potentially needing help with appeals), or
6. Just want to hang around the server's community

...simply couldn't use the discord.

yeah you're right, but like, the verified role currently doesnt restrict you to do anything so it would only affect players that arent verified if the server was being raided again, and even then, it wouldnt be permanent

what do i add? i made an "add some of it" option

 

Numbers for each separate suggestion could help with understanding which ones of them are supported, instead of just knowing "yeah, some of these suggestions are cool, wish I knew which"
