After over 23k messages on the Wyn.ncraft Discord, I've decided to make this thread... (X)


Moderation Issues
This isn't meant to be an attack on any particular moderators but rather a "room for improvement" for everyone on of them.

If you've ever been to the Wynn Discord and checked out #general, you probably experienced hell itself.Horrible memes, insulting each other and some people even going as far as posting Hitler's speeches (which is pretty fucked up if you ask me).
There's gonna be people like that on every server, however, in most cases, they're dealt with within a relatively short amount of time, but they're not in the Wynn Discord. Even if moderators are tagged and look through chat they just usually say "yo kiddos don't do that stuff over here" and leave without giving any real warning or making a real effort at actually moderating, meaning people are just gonna continue posting their annoying shit and making people use other text channels for actual conversations, which mods just have to pick up on and tell them "y0 kiddos go general". What I am trying to say is that rules aren't enforced enough, which leads to breaking even more rules. (I promised myself I wouldn't say any names, but I want to congratulate the man Selvut for being the best fun police out there)

I have a very simple fix for this issue, which would be a "strike system" of sorts that is strict. For example, three strikes a week otherwise you'll be muted for X amount of time. If you get like 3 mutes in 3 months you'll get banned for like a week and If they try to ban evade It'll increase to a month. Strikes would be given when someone breaks a discord rule, and the person issuing the strike should post that rule in the chat.
(You could save the strikes in a doc file that mods can asses)

Another way I could see this being fixed is having discord only mods (but moderators are meant to do both discord and in-game moderating so I don't really know how that'd work). This role could be applied for and would be in charge of keeping the discord in order. I also think that the requirements for this role should be extremely strict because you have to be strict and enforce the rules. I'm talking about relatively no toxic behaviour in the past, activity in the discord, so I'm talking ~5k+ messages. (If they've spammed to get the requirement they should be denied and told to apply later)

Rules
This is gonna be just me giving my opinions on the current discord rules.

1) Keep it clean; No insults or excessive cursing. (No inappropriate language, or insulting other members, this includes racism. In short, keep it PG-13.)

This rule is good, obviously there will always be some sharing but "no excessive cursing". Insulting of others should be taken more seriously, especially people telling Selvut to "fuck himself" and then nothing happening. So it's just enforcing rules.

2) No Spamming. (Do not spam in any channel, includes voice channel spamming.)

Yup.

3) No inappropriate links or images. (Links cannot contain advertising of any kind, racism, pornography, gore, or any other disturbing things.)

Yup.

4) No Loud Noises, inappropriate songs, or intentionally annoying songs. (Inappropriate or annoying are not allowed, this includes racist or offensive songs.)

Depends on what's inappropriate, but these rules aren't really enforced anyways.

5) Ban Evasion. (If you are banned on Discord you are not allowed to use an alternative account to join.)

Yup

6) Names. (No inappropriate names or impersonation of staff or other members.)

Yuuup.


7) Stay on topic. (Keep topics to their channels, questions in the question section and trade in the trade section, this includes memes in #memes )

Should be enforced more.

You maybe already saw some complaints about how we decided to handle Discord stuff from now on - more strict.

I agree with this part mostly

and we're trying to be more strict with mutes and bans. We try to keep track who's been muted, who muted them and for what reason - some sort of google doc would be great for that imo.

and this might be a good idea as well.
Hope there will be some other opinions from everyone, I'd like to see what their point of view is.

 

We're working on tightening the rules on Discord and making sure this kind of stuff no longer goes unpunished. You might have noticed some people getting muted over the last few days as we crack down on some of the more troublesome users. As always, alerting us with @moderator helps to get our attention if no-one is there - And we will be punishing poor behavior now instead of just saying "don't do it again".

 

Thank you dude! It's just a bit sad because some people that are regulars on stuff like House of Sentinels don't wanna talk because of other people's behaviour so It's nice seeing some change

 

I do hope as well that once we've eliminated some of the toxicity, those people will be more willing to talk. Every person behaving well helps because they put people who act up in more of a minority.

 

I think we really need this (not saying what happened in planning parlor causing a player to leave) But srsly what some of the people do in the discord really makes me question the community if they decide to put players down because they asked for help so a strike system would work well.

being relatively new to the discord chat, i have realised over the last few days that the level of toxicity is just really pathetic and sad.
it gives the server quite a poor reputation to be honest.
i have nothing against wynn, its a great server, but think;
if you were a new player and you saw all stupid stuff going on in chat, i'd have second thoughts on whether i'd like to play with these people.

the rules need to be enforced more, and more moderators would help this for sure.

Finally someone who addresses the problems of #general chat ffs like the cancer in that channel makes me leave everytime I join the wynn discord

But yeah, It is pretty bad right now.
@JuicedBananas has made a good effort at being more active in the discord and moderating though, so keep up the good work. (also naraka has been a lot more active)

like this really would be a good idea some of it yeah some of it maybe not but just generally getting rid of the toxic assholes in general chat of the discord would be great I have noticed more of the mods cracking down lately which I like and dislike because their is less chill mods than back in the summer and its sad that you cant joke around in the discord nowadays because someone will be a dick and you both get in trouble but id rather have it more strict that have a ton of dickweeds in the discord

and always a joke
also i sometimes die of laughter with some memes
