Community Event Dern Info

I always assumed road to dern would be a sort of teaser section of what dern is all about that exists between the mesa and twain house, while derm itself would be an area roughly the size of wynn that lies under lusuco, dernel jungle and rtd

 

-I think that its been accepted that the realm in fantastic voyage isn't dern, but idk. Also, that quests put yous out in the abandoned mines with the huge portal.

-There's also Dern Minions that spawn on Dead Island, if thats relevant to anything

If it was immediately Dern the second you got past the rubble, Wynn would be in way less better shape right now.

What about the eye tho
Like is the eye living in dern or are there multiple eyes?

 

I believe RTD is going to be the thicker Dern Abandoned Mines area. The area that has since been sealed off, before they struck enough to say “Its not worth the risk.” I can’t imagine the lore reason we would go there, but I would imagine the player is coaxed by a villager planning to plunder the emeralds no doubt left unmined in the deepest recesses of the “Road”

Dear Nilrem,

The letter I enclose to you has been sealed with concealment magicks. I trust you to know how to read it.

My war against the creature is futile. Intel has reached me from a trusted source. Our world is far smaller than we could have imagined, our magick feeble in comparison to what I am about to explain.

There are realms beyond our comprehension, powers we can not hope to defeat. Two immense forces are at war, with our plain of existence being the battleground. There is a dark creature of the night in a land "far" away, it poses a threat to all.

I give you this letter as a warning and a farewell, friend. I am going to challenge the beast and attempt to seal it away using my own life force, for I know that is all I can do, killing it is not a option.

You know of the magic I have infused in my animal companions, I trust you to hide them until one worthy is able to wield my might. The world can not know of my sacrifice, no one must search for me. You must fake my death, and create a body for them to bury.

The fight will continue, but at least the new recruits will have a fighting chance for the years to come. I wish you luck, Nilrem, continue to train the forces of good, you are the most skilled man than I have ever known.

- wikipedia. This is apparently what the sealed letters show when pieced together.

Interpret it how you want, but it strongly appears to be referencing Dern to me. The "dark creature of the night" may be the Eye or something, although we aren't sure what exactly the Eye is... The land "far" away may be Dern...Maybe theres a small chance it references Bob's fight with the Corrupter of Worlds but then I don't know why you'd find the beginning of that letter in a level 90 spot (Gateway Island). I think Bob was likely in Dern for some time.

"the eye itself isnt the ultimate...... thing in the lore, its more used as a tool. so it isnt all powerful or a special being"

What we get from that is: The Eye is a singular being/object, and isn't some all powerful godlike entity, if it's even a living being at all. When Salted says tool, he could literally mean a physical tool like some sort of weapon or object with great power. Whatever way you take it The Eye ends up not being the main antagonist, which is actually a VERY important clarification since The Eye was widely considered to be the main villain. Now we know it isn't.
