Corruption In Wynn

So to my understanding, Nemract was one of the first cities to be hit by the corruption... why?
on the map, there are 2 towns close to the roots-
1. Detlas
2. Nesaak
If anything one of them would have been hit first, so why was nemract one of the first?

Detlas (and Almuj) had not been built when the Portal first opened - it only came about when the villagers arrived and a provincial center of trade was needed.

Why the army didn't go to Nesaak is far less clear-cut, but the Wynn map, like any RPG map, is a stylization, and so perhaps places built like cities, such as Ancient Nemract, Detlas, Almuj, etc. are and were far larger and more populous than a small fishing town like Nesaak. An undead army hellbent on killing humans would go towards the larger concentration of them, and Ancient Nemract was the closest major city to the portal.

 

ah, but then raises the question..
why tf would you build a central city so close to the corruption lol

 

Even Bak'al points out this was stupid. I guess that area had the space and they didn't care too much about safety
