Corrupted Fallen Factory Confirmed?

I thought there was also a NPC in Selchar by the Item Identifier saying, "Skein's island is the only example of an island being corrupted. I fear that Selchar maybe next." Or something along those lines.

I'm still not quite sure what the reasoning is behind why it got corrupted or if there is no reason. We know in Wynn that corruption spreads from the portal (such as spikes) or from minions from the portal (such as Bak'al, Garoth, and Charon). Though there are no corruption spikes on Skein's island, and there's no mention nor evidence of Bak'al or any corruption spreading entity visiting the island.

 

Also, Corrupted Galleon’s Graveyard is confirmed to exist soontm. Then again, it’s unclear whether corrupted dungeons break continuity for the sake of it (Corrupted Witherhead and Corrupted Garoth is a thing, despite them already being corrupted), or if they happened in an “alternate timeline”. If it’s the former though, then CFF won’t be a problem.

 

Wait, isn’t Dead Island also technically corrupted because of all of the undead?

 

I think Dead Island is corrupted but I could be wrong.
In Haven’s Antiquity, we learn the backstory of the island and iirc, Cinfras (the character) was too complacent and let some sort of evil egg hatch which then devastated the island resulting in undead. I’m not sure if the egg is corrupted or if it’s darkness.

 

Gonna fix a few things here, it wasn't Cinfras who let the egg hatch, it was Siwel (the creepy guy living in the mansion). No one really knows if it's corruption or darkness, but considering that the monsters in the cave were called Dern Beasts, it's a safe bet to assume that it might be darkness.

 

But I thought Darkness was more so like toxic waste in that it mutates already living beings, not really dead things. But then again, Darkness is pretty much corruption so it doesn’t matter that much.

No, not really. Just because Bak'al is working for the Dern Beast doesn't mean that the two are the same.

Also, the corruption on Skien's Island likely came from the person who betrayed Skien, who became corrupted [Item: Locrian]. In their death their shade (seen in Skien's boss fight) followed the general across the sea and is the likely cause for both the corruption and his madness.

Yes, I’m aware that *technically* corruption is a mixture of light and dark or something. But in terms of their purpose in the world and story, they share the same role of being a vague, mysterious force that turns everything evil. Except one turns the ground red, and the other turns it purple.

Don’t just take my word for it either; when Gavel came out, Dark Orcs used to be called Corrupted Orcs. Igbar’s video in Gavel complained about the same thing and pointed this out at 6:11:

If I remember correctly, Dead Island was infected by a dark beast, which is what led some people to theorize that Bob had died there (This was like 2015 so I might bw misremembering details about the theory. Now of course we know he died to that EO parkour...). The island also replaced Endermen Island, which spawned Dern Emigrants, which I think hints strongly at darkness.

That being said, there were a few instances of undead on the ocean, most of which have been removed. The only ones I remember still being in the game as of my last playthrough were the skeletons at pirate cove, Skien's island and Sarnfic. There used to be ocean zombies but I'm pretty sure they were removed years ago.

The Darkness and Light grew closer, but never touched...
At least, not on their plane of existence. They fight for influence over our land from afar.
However, when the two touch through influence, it is not twilight that is formed. But a land of corruption.

O ye, note the phrasing. Could it mean that technically, Light and Dark would never touch, but through some Influence from outside they do and form Corruption?
Perhaps Bak'al, the one trying to spread corruption, works together with the Dernic Beast, only acting like his peon to create more Corruption?

I went over the lore again a couple of weeks ago and we ended up more confused than we started. Light and darkness “touching” is a word salad anyway.

It can happen, the corruption teacher explains this in Order of the Grook: "We know it raises undead bodies...". They go on to mention how the corruption effects things has a greater effect as things become "more heavily injured", and that "you can't exactly get more injured than 'dead.'"

This means that spirits can be corrupted (as a spirit comes from something that died), and so this is entirely possible. There are also examples of spirits that are corrupted, such as the Nether Wights that spawn in the Roots of Corruption and the spirits from the Pit of the Dead which "had to be executed due to the insanity brought on from the corruption … Their spirits still haunt this grave and infect the minds of people who disturb them".

As to how they could spread the corruption, this is also answered in the corruption lesson from Order of the Grook when the corrupt creature spreads corruption from nowhere. The way this an happen is because corruption simply spreads from things already affected completely by it, so if something is corrupted then it can spread the corruption off of itself and into the land.

This is the fault of creative naming sadly. One thing I have constantly come across while searching for info on the next piece of lore I am looking into is that names are often chosen for their interesting sound over their actual meaning. This is why above, I got two sources for corrupted ghosts, as the name of an enemy often has less credibility. The same can happen with items, but less often since there are far fewer that have lore, making them easier to fix and less thrown out for the purpose of 'just being there' like the hundreds of types of mobs in Wynncraft. Also the key worlds are "used to be", as the team changed this to not cause just this kind of confusion.

I honestly don't think I realized that as I was writing to find an answer I would say exactly what you said, since I originally thought that you were wrong, until I read what others had said. I did not mean to be rude here, I just focused on finding an answer rather than checking the question.
