So I WAS going to make a theory on Chaos Elementals but then with hallowynn I decided to save any theory until after I do the new quest. So instead I decided to write a concept thread for an idea I had.

I was thinking about... stuff... and this idea came to me. Environmental effects by region. Now I dont just mean "it snows in nessak" or "it rains in nemract" but literal effects that impact the player. I do realize some of these could be quite laggy, hence why I am putting this in as a concept.

Umm, how about instead of trying to explain, I just show?

    ---

    Coastal Trail: High Tide

The costal trail gets flooded with water. This makes it harder to travel and decreases mana recharge rate. Tide could be dependent on the moon cycle.

    -

    Mesa: Rockfall

When in the lower Mesa section, rocks have a chance of falling from above. This effect will only occur in areas under one of the upper plateaus, and is signaled by a loud rock-breaking sound and the area under the point of impact becoming a slightly darker shade of whatever color clay is usually there (as if the rock is casting a shadow). If the player is hit by the rock, they suffer earth damage. (Falling sand entities of colored clay, no blocks actually get placed)

    -

    CoTL: Shifting Mountains

So we know from the lore of the CoTL that the mountains tend to move. So why don't we make them? At certain times throughout the day, if no player is nearby, the paths will change. For example a path may turn west with a mountain to the east. But once it hits noon, the mountains to the east disappears, and a new mountain appears to the west, therefor changing the structure so the path must turn east. To avoid randomly killing players, and to fit the theme of shifting while no one is watching, it will not shift if a player is nearby.

    -

    Desert: Darude Sandstorm

In the desert, there will occasionally be a sandstorm in certain areas. A bunch of sand particles (you know, the ones that come from the bottom of floating sand particles) start swirling around and any player or mob caught in it gets the blindness effect. This means players cant see very far and mob pathfinding is shorter.

    -

    Sky Islands: Gust

While on the sky islands, you can experience the occasional gust. Shifting will stop you from being effected. The gusts will simply push all mobs and players in an area a few blocks to the side. This is usually harmless, unless the player is near the edge.

    -

    Swamp: Geiser

You know the crusted openings from Thaumcraft? Imagine simular things in the swamp, but not spewing out mobs. A little fissure that has bubble particles around it. When it is about to erupt, it gains smoke particles. Upon eruption, a stream or water particles shoots up. This does water and fire damage as well as shooting the player up, giving the possibility of fall damage.

    -

    Nether Portal: Fire Burst

Similarly to in the swamp, fissures exist in the area around the nether portal. But they act differently. They dont give off particles before shooting, they just randomly create pillars of fire. Unlike the geisers, however, which just go back down, these dont. They act like entities that move around randomly for like 10 seconds before disappearing. They deal fire damage to anyone they touch.

    -

    Nessak: Blizzard

Similarly to the Desert, blizzards can cause blindness. Clouds of white particles that can randomly appear around Neesak. Perhaps also mana drain.

    -

    Ice Canyon: Icicles

Same as Mesa, but with icicles made of packed ice. Earth and water damage.

    ---

    Llevigar Plains: Orc Dance

Every so often Orcs have a special celebration. During this time tougher, stronger, Orcs spawn around the plains, wearing more festive colors. Normal Orcs spawn more frequently.

    ---

    Kander Forest: Brood Spider

So you know those webs that stretch across the trees? Well put some wool or carpet connecting them to the ground. When the player walks over those ground-webbed areas, they get slowed. A spider mini-boss will also drop down from those areas to attack the player when they step on the webs.

(I originally intended to use a falling tree branch, but that would be the third falling damage object)

(This could also kind of work in Nivla)

    -

    Ocean: Waves (Tsunami)

So when on a boat, waves can rise up from water blocks and push the boat in a certain direction. Gives more incentive to use the Sea-Skipper, although big waves can cause the sea-skipper to take longer to reach the destination. When this happens, the captain dude will make a remark about rough waters.

Also, in Selchar, its possible for a Tsunami (water particles, no blocks) to wipe over the whole town, water damaging and knocking back the player into the water. No effect on the Selchar Citizens tho, the locals are used to it.

    ---

These are just some ideas. I don't know how good or bad or how reasonable or unreasonable these are, but yeah!

    fire swamp?
btw some of these A: need a bit more detail and B: need a nerf
for example will you be safe from the Selchar Tsunami if you're inside? how fast will the icicles and boulders fall
will the sharknado's level improve as you move further up the coast?
how annoying will it be to be mid-quest but have to go elsewhere for a few minutes instead of speed running in the CoTL

    1) fire swamp?
    2) I will explain later in this post
    3)nerf how so?

    ---

I used to make a lot of these, but have not recently. The title is labeled "concept".

Ive made a lot of concept threads. Concepts are explaining a mechanic idea, and then showing some proof of concept. Here the mechanic is environmental effects. All the other things like boulder fall and sharknado and stuff like that are just possible examples of the concept.

I have clue how fast things fall, how much damage is realistic, where to position the moving mountains, and stuff like that. Hence the point of the concept.

    1) have you watched "The Princess Bride"?
    2) ok I'll wait
    3) well as far as nerfing the mountains moving only when there are no nearby players would be impossible to code due to chunk loading and the Tsunami striking ALL of selchar would be really overpowered

teh CoTL one is far worse
it can lock you out of quests and in order to open the path again you have to leave the area
which would cause the chunks to unload which would cause the path change to not work

the very mechanics of minecraft (these are the ones that can't be changed)
don't allow changes on unloaded chunks and the only way to make the CoTL chunks loaded is to be there

there's so many quests in CoTL that placing them in non quest areas would either mean expanding the CoTL towards cinfras and such or revising tons of quests

    With noteblocks included, of course!

Okay but seriously this is a nice suggestion, nothing too major but it gives each area their own unique feel and adds more variety to the game.

Ohhh yeah and also because were getting into industry and pollution into wynncraft, why not add pollution! I mean we have radioactive rivers (no fucking joke) in Washington, why not add it in game

Sand storms, blizzards, rock falls, wind, understandable

Raining toads, shifting mountains, sharknado, not understandable

    How about this

    Llevingar planes: Wire burst
-Llevingar is well known for using 2 A energizer batteries, why not add a power outage. This causes prisoners to break out and baisicly everything to go ape shit

Canyon of the lost: Rock slide
-Rock slides already exist in the canyon....why not make them more frequent?

    Coastal trail: High tide
-Guess what, Most of the coast gets flooded!

    The ocean islands: Violent storms
-The lore shows that pirates usted to invade the ocean, the pirates died because they were caught in a storm. Why not add rain, wind, and thunder throughout the whole ocean
