    How do you make that bridge to go to the other island? I have 8 wood, what do I do with it?

    to travel to other islands you can use Seaskipper.
    Buy a Boat Pass near Nemract from Seasail Merchant and throw it in a boat where the Seaskipper is.

    you can also buy a basic minecraft boat (not 100% sure if the merchants still exist tho) or spam spells that help you travel across ocean.

    the wood you gathered is for professions. for example you can craft weaponry.

    If you are talking about the gap at the way start of the game:

    Upon cutting down the tree, it should collapse, forming a new bridge. You do NOT need to repair the broken bridge in the tutorial.
