Very bump worthy thread. Anyway so I tried my shot at making some "interesting" looking terrain for a build, but it turned out looking absolutely despicable

Was wondering if you got any useful terraining/colouring tips to share, or any processes you go through

The most jarring thing about this mountain right now is Shape. dont even worry about coloring, it also equally horrible, that comes after the shape!

I don't like how your mountain is just plain spikes, I get that you are trying to emulate wynncraft terrain, but the terrain on there is meant to strict players and act as glorified walls rather to be realistic.

Look at any picture of a mountain, there is going to be none just likes a featureless cone.

What you are LACKING in your mountain are roots. Above is some exemplar terraforming from my portfolio, see how the mountain isn't just a smooth surface, but it is filled with both highs and lows? How the little contours and valleys slowly snake their way down to the ground organiclly like the roots of a TREE? Thats why it is so IMPORTANT that you MASTER tree building because mountains are basically TREES on CRACK.

Coloring comes next. You color depending on the shape of the countours and the shape of your mountains. You think about where sediment is most likely to settle if there was like a rainstorm and you either highlight those areas or darken them.

Here the blocks used for highlights are: Snow, dirt, mycilium

Here the blocks used for the shadows are: cyan terracotta, gray concrete powder, gray concrete, bedrock, prismarine, purple stained clay and black concrete.

Everything in making a GOOD mountain depends on its shape. Once you have that nailed down it will be very easy.
