Niryes has been following you the whole time, but hasn't made a single sound.
Looking back at him, you see him barely staying awake as he just sort of stumbles through the forest.
"Need... sleep...."
Maybe an hour, tops, before he collapses face-first into the ground.

I start to follow the tracks while also looking out for anything that might want to attack us

 

While tracking, you follow footsteps and other signs, eventually passing by a small cave. Inside the cave is a large, black-skinned, and cat-like creature with a long tail. The tail's end is a flipper-like appendage covered with spikes. It's asleep, but lightly.

What will you do?

This creature is a large monstrosity known as a displacer beast. It can use innate light magic to create illusionary clones of itself, as a way to confuse prey. Displacer beasts are typically solitary hunters, and are extremely difficult to tame. Displacer beasts originate from the fey realms, filling a similar ecological role to bears and other such predators.

It's asleep. You can leave the cave if you want for minimal danger.
