Another Dungeons & Dragons Campaign (6/6 Players)

You walk along the path into a larger room. Suddenly, you spot a swarm of rats on the floor. It hisses at you, and more hissing comes from a nearby side area.

Roll for initiative, I guess.

If it's possible I try to intimidate the rats:3+1=4

I use my reaction: I attack the closest rats.
To hit= Nat 20
Damage:7+7+3+1+1=19

Initiative=10+3=13

 

You utterly fail to intimidate the rats. They think you smell delicious.

Your reaction fails, because:

• A. The rats aren't in range of your axe.
• B. They haven't actually attacked. The rats have just hissed threateningly at you.

Btw do you have any special rules on opportunity attacks? Or is it just that you can attack something if it gets out of range?

 

You tried to make a reaction, not an Attack of Opportunity. The reaction was roughly worded as: "If a creature attempts to make an attack against me within range of my axe, I attack it with my axe."

I use normal AoO rules.

Luneth pulls out her bow and shoots twice at Swarm 1.
Attack Roll 1: 8 + 4 = 12
Attack Roll 2: 7 + 4 = 11

Damage Roll 1: 4 + 2 = 6
Damage Roll 2: 2 + 2 = 4
Quite a few of the rats die.


The rats move closer and start eating at Liun's feet, seeing how he looks less ready than Knaal.
Attack Roll: 16 + 2 = 18
Damage Roll: 2 + 1 = 3 piercing damage. Liun is at 0 HP.
Liun tries his best to get away from the swarm, but they climb up his boots and bite through the fabric of his clothing. Eventually, the sheer amount of bites drops him to his knees, where the rats keep biting.
@BlueSlimerino, this is important.

Damage:4+3+3+1=11

 

Your shout, combined with how you're killing most of the rats (only a few are left after that swing), frightens the rats.

Speaking of the rats, their victim must make a death save.

Maybe, although Knaal screaming at them and hitting them with his axe is quite scary as it is.

The nervous rats barely dodge your fire attack.
